For example, one test checks whether an antivirus can be silently uninstalled (don't laugh: amazingly, some can.) Antivirus+ Security didn't just block the attempt, it closed down my testing tool and raised a notification to warn me: the best response I've seen.

But AV-Comparatives isn't the only metric I use to determine the overall effectiveness of any antivirus' detection ability. Along with my own observations, I also look at AV-Test, another third-party security software testing lab.

My toughest antivirus test pits the reviewed product against my own custom ransomware simulator. As I've written this myself, Trend Micro wouldn't be able to detect the threat from its file signature, and could only rely on behavior monitoring.

Many antivirus products fail this test, but Trend Micro achieved another big success. Not only did it kill the process after only three documents had been encrypted, but it also recovered those documents in full, ensuring I didn't lose any data at all.

Trend Micro is excellent at stopping malware from infecting your computer by stopping malicious files before they even have a chance to start downloading. It has extra protection for your email, banking, and credit card accounts. Here is a rundown of everything I learned while testing Trend Micro's antivirus programs and the tools included, and a quick comparison of each subscription to help you decide which one is the right one for you.

Trend Micro is one of the best antivirus software because it is really good at blocking websites with known malicious files and phishing schemes. During testing, I purposely tried to access sites made to look like the login pages of PayPal and Facebook. Trend Micro used its web reputation technology to stop me every time.

As with most antivirus programs, Trend Micro has several different subscription packages available from basic antivirus protection to a full all-in-one computer protection option. While they all have the same level of malware detection, each has a different number of advanced security tools to provide an even more secure browsing experience.

On average, Trend Micro stops about 98% of malware threats. This is higher than the industry standard of about 95%, so we feel really good about recommending using Trend micro for your devices. Trend Micro stops malicious files during the download process and places them in its quarantine folder. Here you can double-check if it was a false positive result, or simply leave it alone for Trend Micro to scrub clean after a couple of days.

Performance looks at two main areas. The first is how much lag the antivirus software creates on the devices you use it on. Because software takes a chunk of device memory, depending on how much you already have locally saved could affect the overall performance.

While every antivirus software subscription offered by Trend Micro has Pay Guard and does well in stopping malware, there are a number of advanced security tools that are available with high-priced subscriptions. These give you even more protection against threats other than viruses and ransomware.

I've been alerted to an issue with Trend Micro antivirus scanners causing problems for SharePoint, and reporting SharePoint files as being infected with a virus. Apparently there was an issue with the updates released sometime last night/this am, which flagged SharePoint javascript files (initstrings.js, maybe others) as being infected on both the client and server. I believe Trend Micro updated their AV definitions at noon eastern time on 12/6/2016(today) to address this problem. I understand that there are at least two options to resolve this, as told to me by SharePoint farm owners.

Please uninstall all antivirus software installed on your PC (including previously in use).

Even if it is a Trend Micro product, this antivirus software cannot be installed if it is still on PC.

You will need to obtain information on uninstalling your current antivirus software. Please note that Windows Defender does not need to be uninstalled.
