The title references the expression "sweet nothings", which denotes insubstantial romantic gestures only meant to flatter or seduce. In the lyrics, a narrator appreciates her lover for not expecting anything from her and describes him as a calm and reliable presence amidst the chaotic world outside.[16][19] She feels like home with him: "you're in the kitchen humming"; this lyric evokes imagery of a couple's intimacy within a kitchen setting on some of Swift's past songs such as "All Too Well" (2012) and "Cornelia Street" (2019).[20] She recalls how he appreciates her: "On the way home / I wrote a poem / You say what a mind."[21] The lyrics, "industry disruptors and soul deconstructors / And smooth-talking hucksters out glad-handing each other", allude to Swift's struggles with her fame and celebrity. The narrator expresses her vulnerability and admits to her lover, "I'm just too soft for all of it".[20] Some critics commented the song is structured similar to a nursery rhyme.[17][22]

"Sweet Nothing" received widespread acclaim from critics. Au-Nhien Nguyen picked it as an album highlight for a different side of Swift's songwriting.[18] Alex Hopper of American Songwriter appreciated the song's romantic simplicity because it feels "buoyantly free and delightfully naive".[23] Ranking every Midnights track, Billboard journalist Jason Lipshutz placed it as the album's eighth best song; he said Swift's subtle gestures are one of the album's most affecting.[16] Entertainment Weekly's Marc Hirsh called the song "charming" for Swift's devotion and gratitude to someone who demands nothing for her.[24] Rick Quinn from PopMatters picked "Sweet Nothing" as one of the songs that showcased Swift's ability to "enunciate and play with where the emphatic accent falls become rhythmic instruments."[25] Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph hailed the "gossamer-light, flyaway ballad" as the album's best song.[26] In the Financial Times, Ludovic Hunter-Tilney picked the track as a showcase of Swift's ability to "sound conversational and highly tuneful at the same time" and lauded her "wonderfully deft use of tone and phrasing".[27] Esquire selected "Sweet Nothing" among the 45 best songs of 2022.[19]

As seen by attentive X users, the Midnights artist just liked an old tweet from October 2022 detailing a quote from Paul McCartney about his relationship with ex-wife Linda McCartney. Per the quote, the Beatles member had a sweet tradition with Linda, saying, "I would come back from a run with a poem to share and having listened Linda would say, 'What a mind.'"

"I was like, 'Hey, this could be really weird, and we could hate this,'" she explained, "'because we're in quarantine and there's nothing else going on, could we just try to see what it's like if we write this song together?'"

The only track Joe co-wrote on Midnights, this sweet love song opens with a pebble picked up from a beach in Wicklow, which is the county in Ireland where the actor filmed the Hulu series Conversations With Friends.

It is true that I have nothing, and have gained as much in my time here. Yet I am happy that this lesson did not reduce me to nothing. If there is nothing I leave with, I am happy to have only this. And so while I may leave with nothing, I know this nothing is more than the one I walked in with because it acknowledges that it is nothing. I may have nothing, but here and now, it is my everything. The memory of a thing that will follow me through the world, meaning nothing and everything all at the same time.

Next came the crucial location decision. Too near and I would be in the centre of the action I was escaping. Too far and I would have to do too much whenever I needed anything. Sun or shade? Deck or dock? Within range to call for service or too distant to be called? The wife, who rated my chances of doing more nothing than usual as nil, suggested the deep woods. A cool one, for sure.

On my nothing morning, I got up early to stake my territory and practise doing nothing before there was anyone around who I might be tempted to do anything with or vice versa. By the time I was awakened in the bright sunlight four hours later by a dog lick on the lips, I had succeeded in doing nothing but turning exposed flesh lobster red.

It's hard to believe, but it was 20 years ago when dinosaur first roamed the back roads and byways of central massachusetts. J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph formed their band in 1984 in the sleepy college town of amherst, ma, and went on to change the face of rock foreverwhether they actually ever intended to or not.

Long before the folks in seattle were raiding thrift stores for flannel, dinosaur jr. Laid the groundwork for a seismic shift in the underground rock scene. These first three albums, with their sonic wall of melodic bass, furious drums and stunning guitar wizardry, coupled with an almost laissez faire vocal delivery, became the sonic blueprint for what would become known as alternative rock over the next decade.

Dinosaur jr. Single-handedly moved the indie scene from the rigid ideology and rapid fire bursts of hardcore and post-punk into a new era of introspective yet no less powerful expression. Instead of dismissing the influences of 60s and 70s rock, as had been the rallying cry of punk, Dinosaur jr. embraced the heavy guitar riffs and melodic underpinnings of a bygone era, and created a full on sonic assault that took the world by surprise if not by storm.

Some folks called it the perfect union of sonic youth and neil young, and when it's all said and done that's as good a reference point as any. The influence that dinosaur jr. Has had on their peers and future generations of musicians/bands is immeasurable.

Now, 20 years since the release of their self-titled debut that left folks scratching their heads (yet at the same time hungry for more) sweet nothing/cargo is honoured to bring these three classic cds back into print after years of scattered availability.

Originally released on two of the most influential independent labels of the times ' Homestead and SST ' Dinosaur, you're living all over me and bug will now be available to an entirely new generation of music fans. If there is any justice these recordings will be just as influential the second time around
