This story follows Kendall who works at a college library and Vince who is a varsity basketball player. Kendall Holiday spends most of her time reading romance novels and staying in her dorm instead of partying with her friends. Vincent Knight, captain of the basketball team, turns up with an injured wrist and a need for poetry recommendations for a class he hates. Suddenly, Kendall is falling headfirst into her own romance novel, but it takes a lot more truth than tropes to get to a happy ever after in real life.

And most importantly, I was delighted to discover that romance books are full of strong, independent women. The romance stories I was reading were so different from the ones I had read as a teen. Those were about helpless women being rescued by pirates and sheikhs, although those subgenres have their place, too.

Christine Wheary is a former student of mine. She worked in the medical field, where she had a demanding director position. She was a lifelong romance fan, and started a side hustle working with romance books so she could stay busy when she retired.

Editorial training and mentorship is very important to becoming a romance proofreader. Fiction books have their own editorial issues and standards that are very different from other kinds of content. It is reassuring to learn from an expert who has been where you are and can support you in growing.

Romance fiction also has its own unique considerations that proofreaders must be familiar with. Once you know what writers, readers, and publishing houses expect, you can create a name for yourself in the romance niche like Christine did.

I love the days I can focus on just proofreading or editing a book. I settle down in front of my laptop with a cup of tea and read all day. This is what my typical day is like when I proofread romances:

Romance books are not going anywhere. They will continue to reach new readers, evolve with new subgenres, and romance writers will thrive. If you want to proofread romance novels, you can with the proper training and guidance.

I read a lot of Afrikaans romans and love to do proofreading in the Afrikaanse field. I see a lot of spelling errors while reading and realy would like to proofread Afrikaans e-books and earn extra income as a pensioner

I love Nora Roberts, Joan Johnston, Judy Christenberry, and Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and more authors. I love Nora Roberts with her characters of the MacGregors. I always go back and reread my books that I have kept. I have always loved reading these authors and others. If I could do this for a living I would love to lose myself in a good romance novel.

I like my romance, just a little more graphic. I like Samantha Whiskey, Lauren Landish, Penelope Sky. But I also notice grammar errors in alot of my books, I can easily read 300+ pages in a 24 hr. Span. I would love to get paid to read!

My favor author is Sylvia Day. Her books are wonderful. I have read many romance novels and I always go back to her. This sounds like a great opportunity to do something that I love. How do I find courses on proofreading?

Hi Jen! Romance is such a popular genre, and writers are constantly creating, so there are lots of opportunities for proofreaders and editors. Many of our grads go on to work with romance indie writers and publishing houses. To balance with a full-time career, I recommend starting off with proofreading/editing books as a side hustle. That will allow you to develop a workflow, see what marketing tactics work, and create a roster of clients before you decide to take it full time.

Contemporary and classic romances have equal appeal. This list of the best romance novels of all time includes ones written as recently as two years ago and others more than a century old. It also has some of the top, best-known and most successful romance writers of all time, such as Beverly Jenkins, Jude Deveraux, Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel. The list includes gay and lesbian romances as well as ones written by authors of color. Avid romance readers will enjoy digging into this comprehensive guide to the best in romance.

Alexis Hall is known for sexy contemporary gay British romance, and this romcom showcases their exceptional talent. Luc grew up in the spotlight thanks to his rock star parents, and a recent public embarrassment forces him to right his reputation by pretending to date respectable, straitlaced Oliver. Of course, they fall in love for real.

Another warm, witty gay romance novel about Dev Deshpande, the producer of a hugely popular TV dating show who finally finds love himself with Charlie Winshaw. The new star of the program is supposed to be wooing ladies but instead is sparking with Dev.

The office romance The Hating Game by Sally Thorne has every delectable ingredient of a perfect rom-com. The 2016 novel features a hate-to-love couple, a swoon-worthy lead and a fun work setting, where Lucy and Joshua are assistants to the CEOs of a publishing company.

The best romance book for teens is Heartstopper by Alice Osman. The 2020 graphic novel and its sequels follow the sweet, slowly blooming romance between big man on campus Nick and sensitive, quiet Charlie. Also one of the best gay romance novels, it inspired a hit Netflix show.

It's easy to get a little embarrassed when your literati friends ask what you're currently reading... and the answer is a trashy romance novel. These books often have a stigma attached, that the audience is completely made up of crazy-cat-ladies indulging in an indiscretion. Obviously these broad generalizations don't line up with reality, so why the weird guilt? It's not necessary.

Not everyone realizes that romance novels can be well-written and often crossover into other genres (fantasy, adventure, crime fiction, etc). There's often more to the story than throbbing members and heaving bosoms. It takes a seriously talented author to write a compelling love story and a non-cheesy sex scene (see the hilarious Bad Sex in Fiction Award). So when I use the term "trashy," I mean it as a term of endearment.

Recently, I finished the Nora Roberts's Guardian Trilogy (different than the Three Sisters Island Trilogy photographed above) and was describing the plot to Tom. Wizards and werewolves, magic battles and an evil goddess - I think I had him intrigued, and he was definitely surprised to learn that the Queen of Romance also wrote fantasy. Other popular series like A Song of Ice and Fire certainly know that sex sells (and have plenty of it). Roberts has mastered the romance genre, making "prolific" seem like an understatement in the amount of books she's churning out (over 200 novels). Every time I pick up one of her books, I know I won't be disappointed.

Another great thing about romance novels is their wide availability. Especially at thrift stores and libraries, you can grab a copy for little-to-no cost. They make great vacation books (the ones from thrift stores, not the library) because you don't have to worry about beating them up during travel and you can leave them behind in your Airbnb to free up some space in your luggage.

And to top it off, the genre is largely dominated by female authors who like to write about strong-willed female protagonists. So the next time you're in a reading funk, try strolling down the romance aisle to see if anything (or anyone... like Fabio) catches your eye. Try not to be bashful when admitting you're reading a book titled Ravished or Lord of Scoundrels, but do give your friends a chuckle by playing the "pick a page and look for a silly synonym for a sexual organ" game.

This first book is absolutely perfect if you want Travis and Taylor vibes. It follows Kenzie Tyler, a famous pop star, and Nic Bennet, a star NFL player who absolutely has no plans of settling down until he finds Kenzie. This book is a novella so it is on the shorter side but makes the cutest romance to snuggle up with!

This next read is a second-chance romance between a hockey player and a singer. I really like this one because the male main character is actively fighting to win the girl over from her toxic boyfriend (love the effort). I totally recommend this to my Tayvis fans who are also hockey girls at heart!

Finally, Playing Hurt by Kelly Jamieson is a hockey player and pop star romance about a hockey player, Chase, who becomes very flirty with a struggling pop star on social media, who happens to be a fan of his team. This pop star then goes on a date with Chase in hopes of connecting with him and her favorite team. This book is perfect for all the fangirls at heart who need a little hope.

Yet these books were also causing me harm. It seemed innocent enough, but investing so much of my emotional and mental energy in these stories worked to create unrealistic and unhealthy expectations for how romantic relationships develop. While bringing comfort and an escape from the loneliness of being single, they never truly satisfied my longing for my own in-real-life relationship.

There are currently 2 books in this Sarah J. Maas series, and I cannot wait for CC3 to hopefully make its way into our hands this year! This book is set in modern times and there is a major information dump at the beginning, but everything comes together pretty quickly. If you know SJM, you know that there is going to be some incredible world-building, a world-shaking romance, and lots of juicy plot twists.

YES absolutely love these two stand-alone books by Naomi Novik. I just re-read Uprooted and I virtually never reread things! Going to do that with Spinning Silver in another year or two, just finished it last year and want more details to fade in my memory before I take it out again ? But WOW. 0852c4b9a8
