An activator rail cannot be attached to the side or bottom of any block, but attempting to make such an attachment may cause the activator rail to attach to the top of a block under the destination space. For example, if a fence is on the ground, attempting to attach an activator rail to the side of the fence causes the activator rail to be attached to the top of the ground next to the fence instead.

When placed, an activator rail configures itself to line up with any adjacent rails (including detector rails, powered rails, and other activator rails), as well as adjacent rails one block up. The behaviors in Java and Bedrock editions diverge in the following ways.

Activator rails (and other rails) can be used as "roads" for minecarts. A minecart that enters an activator rail's space from either end of the activator rail continues to move, losing only a little velocity (which can then be increased again with powered rails). A minecart that enters an activator rail's space from the side turns east or south (depending on the activator rail's orientation), or in the downward direction for a slanted activator rail.

I have been working on a large project that relies on the idea of reliably ejecting a villager from a minecart and into a controlled path with water streams. But it turns out that activator rails are very buggy and don't seem to treat villagers and players the same way. After doing some tests in creative mode, I am less convinced than ever that I understand how the activator rail functions. It seems to depend on the speed of the cart and the compass direction of orientation... but more tests are necessary.

The likely cause of the activator rail bug is probably that unlike players, mobs can get picked up by the minecart when they are just standing around. In my observations, what causes the activator rails to fail a lot is that the villager gets simultaneously ejected and then re-enters the minecart. The simplest fix to this problem (although I am not a programmer) would seem to be to add a very short cool-down period that prevents a mob from re-entering a minecart after they have exited. I believe there is currently something like this to prevent them from ping-ponging back and forth through a portal. Would be nice to see that implemented.

I am having a big problem getting activator rails to eject in the direction I want it to. On my test world, everything worked fine, ejecting mobs one space in the negative Z and one block in the negative X directions. In survival, I have changed the direction I've aimed the rails three times and no matter what I do, mobs are ejected EITHER one space in the negative Z OR the negative X but not both. The end result is that the mob is ejected right on top of the rail the cart is running on.

I'm currently not in the position to test this but i was wondering if this is possible? I know for a fact that the creator of the mod in which the grindstone is (applied-energistics) in didn't want to make the player able to automate the grindstone but since the autonomous-activator simulates the players clicks I thought it might be a viable option.

Yes. The autonomous activator acts as a fake player, simulating clicks as configured. It works on virtually anything that is activated by right clicking repeatedly, including the Applied Energistics grindstone. Using an Engineering Turtle from ComputerCraft also works. There's nothing in Applied Energistics that prevents it.

The Activator Rail is a type of Minecart-based rail that can set off minecarts with TNT, deactivate/activate minecarts with hopper, and drop off any player or entity inside the minecart. The activator rail must be powered to do this. It acts like a normal Rail when it's not powered.

When making activator rails, it is important that the iron ingots, sticks, and redstone torch are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In this first row, there should be 1 iron ingot in the first box, 1 stick in the second box, and 1 iron ingot in the third box. In the second row, there should be 1 iron ingot in the first box, 1 redstone torch in the second box, and 1 iron ingot in the third box. In the third row, there should be 1 iron ingot in the first box, 1 stick in the second box, and 1 iron ingot in the third box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for activator rails.

Activator rails can be placed on top of any solid opaque blocks, any hopper, upside down slabs, upside down stairs, or on top of any transparent block. An activator rail can be used to move minecarts and they can be activated by: an active power component, an adjacent power block, a powered redstone comparator, a redstone repeator, or powered redstone dust.

A. An activator rail can be used to move minecarts and they can be activated by: an active power component, an adjacent power block, a powered redstone comparator, a redstone repeator, or powered redstone dust. An active activator rail will: eject mobs from minecarts, repeatedly activates command block minecarts, disables hopper minecarts, and primes TNT minecarts.
