Rockstar is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman, to the 2011 Hindi musical film of the same name, directed by Imtiaz Ali, and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles. The lyrics for all the songs of the album were penned by Irshad Kamil. The film also stars Shammi Kapoor, who makes his last silver screen appearance in the film. The film is jointly produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and Eros International. The album features fourteen tracks, and was released on 30 September 2011 by T-Series to extremely positive critical reception and hysterical response from fans, grabbing nominations and numerous music awards held in the subsequent year.[1] The entire album topped the iTunes world charts 2011 and continued its legacy until early 2012.[1] The Indian Express has termed the film's soundtrack 'A Milestone for Bollywood'.[1]

The music for the film is scored by A R Rahman replacing Imtiaz Ali's previous associate, Pritam. Mohit Chauhan has lent his voice for nine songs and he is voice of character Jordan (played by Ranbir Kapoor).[2] In 2010, during the development of the album, Rahman stated, "Rockstar is a character driven film and as one can guess from the title, there will be lots of guitar".[3] In 2010, several meetings of Ali and the lyricist Irshad Kamil brought into a phrase titled, "Words destroy what I have to say". The song (Jo Bhi Main) that brings out the dilemma of the protagonist. Kamil suggested the last two lines (In lafzon ke maayne jaaney kaun badalta hai, main kehta hoon kuch, aur matlab aur koi ho jaata hai) for the particular song.[1] But Ali didn't accept the lines because the protagonist wasn't supposed to have this level of sophistication as he was not poetic.[1] To make it sound like something that could come from character Jordan, Kamil toned down the original after a few more rounds of discussion the lines were "Jo Bhi Main Kehna Chaahoon Barbaad Kare Alfaaz Mere" in the soundtrack.[1] Upon development of the vociferating words Sadda Haq, Kamil stated that the situation needed a politically charged number that Jordan performs before a surging crowd at the height of his artistic angst.[1] The slogan was used by students during Kamil's college days in Punjab to protest against the administration's arbitrary announcement of exams.[1] On writing lyrics of "Phir Se Udd Chala", the analogies, he stated on introduction of offtrack lines like "Banu Raavan, Jiyoon Mar Marke" ("I become Raavan by continuing to live each time I die"), "The line was a metaphor for character Jordan who like the demon Ravan from the mythology Ramayana, dies a number of times and yet goes on with his life and that is why I used the Ravan simile."[1] As per Rahman two songs Jo Bhi Mein and Sadda Haq aspire to be in the tradition of song Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones and song Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd. Further, he added, "Just like most rock songs stood for people's voices, here also the central character's cry relates to every one of us." In an interview with Mid-Day, he stated, "I consciously kept away from using distorted guitars and heavy snazzy music. But I have done it here in Rockstar. Plus most songs are acoustic."[4] For the song Katiya Karun singer Harshdeep Kaur noted that the song was recorded at AR Studios, Powai, Mumbai. Rahman asked the translation of Katiya Karun lyrics to which she explained the meaning to him. The lyrics translate as, "I spin your cotton all night, the entire day is spent in this thought, I shall live and die for you, Be a spinning wheel O' my body." Rahman wanted it to be a very catchy number as it was going to be a fun song with Jordan and Heer (played by Nargis Fakhri) on the road. Rahman started composing and created the song right in front of the singer. Kaur stated that it wasn't a folk song, only the rhyme Katiya Karun belongs to a Punjabi folk content.[5] A part of the song was shot at a discotheque and hence, Kamil put in subtle metaphor lyrics in the song lines translating, "I will spin your cotton all night long" that indirectly implied "I will be at your services all night", thus giving it an item song touch.[1]

I have the same problem both in the online browser and on my phone using the app. Also the first 11s of Leave plays than it mutes.

The songs from the album even get skipped in playlists. But everything else is fine. Its so strange.

Looking for song inspiration for my Tiefling Lucien Trashmetal.

He used to be a worldfamous rockstar, but mysteriously disappeard 15 years ago.

Now he came back, but only older folks remember him.

I haven't really looked in to other genres, as I pictured him as just a rockstar. His background story is famous rockstar gone missing for 15 years, so only the older people really remember him. (Think like the stereotypical British rockers). So not necessarily flute songs.

If you want more Rock listen to the Beck, Bogert Appice version of Superstition (Beck and Stevie wrote it together, Beck was supposed to release it first but Stevie's management got it first). Both great songs.

The EP feels weirdly scattered to me, and this is coming from someone who enjoys diffusion. I do enjoy rockstar a great deal, but tricky House still appeals more to my dance idiot lizard brain. Still hard to believe they are rookies. I bet the comeback will be great.

Dolly Parton isn't messing around on her first-ever rock 'n' roll album. The country legend and somewhat reluctant member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has recruited dozens of rock's biggest stars to help her cover some of the genre's most famous songs for the upcoming Rockstar.

Upon announcing the release of Rockstar last year, Parton wrote in a statement on her website: I am very honoured and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure.

During June's BET Awards, however, he premiered a new version of the song, titled the "BLM Remix." DaBaby performs the opening verse lying on the ground, under the knee of a faceless white body, tying his own life's trials and tribulations with those of George Floyd. It's a startling image that strikes a dissonant tone: DaBaby invokes Floyd, a man unable to breathe during the last moments of life, as the rapper's own words escalate in volume. He raps about his vilification by hometown authorities and challenging their right to seizure of his property; he boasts about buying a Lamborghini as an action of resistance as opposed to a transparent display of grandeur. But the concept of rockstardom, as nebulous as that may be, is not affixed to the average Black person in America nor is that dynamic present in average interactions with law enforcement. Ultimately, this is why fastening "BLM Remix" to the track flies in the face of the song's greater temperament. With this new framework, the hook ("with the pistol on my hip like I'm a cop") becomes increasingly discomfiting the more you listen.

Let's be honest. Some of the crap that is being churned out nowadays in the name of Hindi film music is despicable. The past decade especially has witnessed a severe deterioration in the quality of Bollywood songs. Barring a few talented musicians including Vishal Bhardwaj, Amit Trivedi, Ram Sampath, Shantanu Moitra and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (apologies if I missed out anyone good) operating in mainstream Hindi cinema, the majority of modern-day composers deliver at best mediocre quality of music. Many would assert that even the aforementioned names are not in the league of yesteryear musical giants like Naushad, SD Burman, RD Burman, Madan Mohan, Jaidev, Salil Chowdhury or Khayyam, who have created some magical compositions that continue to enchant music aficionados to this day. However, there is one name that stands taller than the others (in my humble opinion), and whom I regard as the 'G.O.A.T.' or the greatest of all time. It is the shy and reticent musical genius, Allah Rakha Rahman!

With so many masterful soundtracks in Hindi and Tamil cinema, it becomes difficult to pick out the numero uno by the Mozart of Madras. Although Rahman rates the soundtrack of Deepa Mehta's Water (2005) as his only album deserving of a 10/10, I consider Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar (2011) his best work so far. Every song in the film is exceptional and fuels the screenplay, thereby making the soundtrack the true rockstar of Rockstar. But what elevates the album to a magical level is the equally brilliant visuals that complement Rahman's music. The songs have been picturised so beautifully that Imtiaz Ali's visual artistry compares to that of legendary directors like Mani Ratnam and Vijay Anand. Also, one cannot overlook the sublime poetry by Irshad Kamil who bares the lead protagonist Jordan's (Ranbir Kapoor) feelings through his potent words. Simply by listening to the lyrics, one can trace the character-arc of Jordan and his state of mind. The other key contributor to the magic of Rockstar is Mohit Chauhan, whose soulful renditions pierce the heart as he voices Jordan's angst, agony and vulnerability. And, last but not the least, Ranbir Kapoor, whose career-high performance as an emotionally bruised rockstar adds layers of depth to the film's song sequences.

In a statement to USgamer Rockstar Games confirmed that some songs will be leaving the game due to expired licenses, but also announced that there will be some new songs added as replacements. Rockstar says:

"Due to music licensing restrictions, we are required to remove certain songs from the in-game soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto IV and its Episodes, in particular a large portion of the Russian pop station, Vladivostok FM. However we are replacing some of those songs with a new set of songs on that station. We will update our customer support website with new information as soon as it is available." 0852c4b9a8
