The song "Kadhal Mattum Purivathillai" is based on "Raven" by the Swedish-Finnish folk band Hedningarna, whilst "Manasu Rendum" is based on "A Rose in the Wind" by Indonesian singer Anggun.[8] More than a year after the release of the film, an "original soundtrack" was released, that followed the Hollywood-style. It was said to be the first time, that an original soundtrack was released for a film in India as the soundtracks released in India do not contain any film score pieces but full songs that feature in the film itself.[7] The OST of Kaadhal Kondein contains 20 tracks overall, which includes the seven earlier released tracks, four "montage" bit songs, that featured in the film, but not in the soundtrack, and nine pieces from the actual film score, which were titled as "Theme Music".
Prabhu Deva initially named this film as Paris. It was developed under the title Ich until it was finally renamed Engeyum Kadhal in 2010.[1] The name was changed to seek tax exemption.[2] 158 women auditioned for the heroine before Hansika Motwani was selected.[3] The composition of the songs took place in Sydney toward the end of 2009.[4][5][6] The film started its shooting schedule in Paris on 2 June 2009, canning scenes featuring Ravi and Hansika.[7][8] The video clip of the song "Nenjil Nenjil" was made in Santorini Island in Greece and Thee Illai song was shot in New Zealand.[9]

The soundtrack received positive reviews from music critics. Indiaglitz mentioned that "Overall, Engeyum Kadhal is one of the best albums of the year. The music and original score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, reuniting with Sundar C after 19 years since their last film Winner (2003). It mark Yuvan Shankar Raja's fourth collaboration with Sundar C and his fifth time with Jiiva after Raam , Kattradhu Thamizh , Siva Manasula Sakthi and Kalathil Santhippom. The album consists of eight songs.[25] The audio rights acquired by U1 Records. Yuvan remixed and sing a popular classical song "Rum Bum Bum" from Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990) which was composed by his father Ilaiyaraaja, and was released as a first single on 1 July 2022.[26] The second single "Baby Gurl" was released on 16 July 2022.[27] A promo video of the third single titled "Thiyagi Boys" was released on 6 August 2022. The entire song of the third single is scheduled to be released on 8 August 2022.[28] It also marks the second collaboration of Adhi with Yuvan Shankar Raja after Anbarivu.[29] The fourth single "Naalaya Pozhudhu" was released on 24 August 2022.[30] The audio launch was held on 26 September 2022.[31][32] The entire soundtrack album was released on 11 October 2022.[33] Yuvan remixed a popular classical song "Poda Poda Punnaku" from En Rasavin Manasile (1991) which was composed by his father Ilaiyaraaja, and was released as a last single on 7 December 2022 after the film's release.[34]
