Frédéric Docquier has been Deputy Director of the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) since September 2024. He joined LISER in 2019 as head of the Crossing Borders Transversal Program. He coordinates the ACROSS doctoral training unit, which brings together researchers from LISER, the University of Luxembourg and STATEC. He is a member of the Academy of Europe, the Institut Grand-Ducal de Luxembourg, and the Fondation IDEA. Previously, he was Professor of Economics at the Université catholique de Louvain and Research Associate of the FNRS (2005-19), Affiliate Professor at the University of Luxembourg (2021-24), Associate Professor at the University of Lille (1997-2005), Invited Professor at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2015-18), Université Clermont-Auvergne (2013-18) and Université de Nantes (2009-15), among others. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Université d'Aix-Marseille. His research interests include the economics of migration, quantitative development theory, and economic growth. He acted as an external expert for the World Bank (member of the scientific committee of the World Development Report 2023), the United Nations (UNESCO and the High-Level Panel on the post-2015 Development Agenda) and the Agence Française de Développement. He has published articles in the Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of the European Economic Association, Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Economic Geography, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and many other journals.
