Frank Dalton Participated in Good Sports in Order to lead by example, “We already have in place a lot of what Good Sports teaches Clubs – it is part of our day-to-day duties.
I Thought Katherine Country Club would lead the way, as I wanted all the sporting clubs we sponsor and that use our facilities to partake in this program and learn more about responsible service of alcohol and duty of care, especially to their club members and players who are under 18 year old”, said Frank Dalton.

For months residents of Katherine had to rely on weather data from Tindal – 25km south of town – as their only source of weather forecasts, after the weather station at the Katherine Aviation Museum shut down.
But a new manual synoptic weather station has now been set up at Katherine’s Golf and Country Club, where manager Frank Dalton and his team have taken on the task to report their weather observations – including dew po9int, humidity, temperature, wind speed and rainfall – twice a day, at 9am and 3pm.
“We’re a community club and the community needed a weather station based in Katherine,” Mr Dalton said.
“Reporting our observations is our contribution to the people of the Katherine community.” Bureau of Meteorology Regional Observations Manager Rob Chapman said it took two days to move the weather station from the Aviation Museum to the club, but operations were now running smoothly and reported its first 24 hour rainfall – 12mm- last Wednesday. The Katherine weather station is one of 27 manual stations across the Northern Territory that report weather observations to the Bureau twice a day. “Together with 40 automatic weather stations and the radars at Tindal, Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs the annual stations help to contribute to the overall weather forecasts for the Northern Territory,” Mr Chapman said. All data reported from NT stations can be found online at www.bom.gov.au.
