One of my fellow classmates showed me his astronaut and had it doing very simple motions like waving. I’m curious to see how far Vuforia can go. The 3ds has an AR mode were it takes a picture of your face and small ships attack your screen. I wonder if Vuforia is capable of doing something like this or if its only able to display simple animations. Combining the ability of AR and your camera for games seems like it could be a ton of fun. A game that does this already is Pokemon go. It uses the camera on your phone and displays wild Pokemon on your screen and you are able to interact with them by pressing the touch screen. I wonder if one day we will be able to host actually complex games, kind of like how they do in Yu-Gi-OH.
Another thing that AR could used for is live action performances. Recently League of legends had hosted a world tournament were they had musicians perform the worlds song they had made for the event. While performing this event they had four of their champions show up on stage using AR and had them dance to the music. The stage had extremely large tvs and the fan could watch the AR display on them. We could maybe use this technology to recreate famous events throughout history. We could build small models of historical events such as the moon landing or the signing of the declaration of independence. We could have some scale models of these events and use AR to have the environment display the models and have them interact with the things around them.
Something I hope this technology can do is being able to make billboards come alive. Imagine walking in the City and holding your phone up to a billboard and having the image come to life and maybe even tell some type of small story. They could also be used for marketing purchases too. A consumer could look at an interesting billboard and have a small model appear on their screen where they could have the option to look at it and maybe purchase it from the manufacture. This would work kind of like QR codes but would instead us AR and you wouldn’t need to get as close to the object to scan it Many futuristic novels use holograms to do this, however if we could use a program like Vuforia, we might be one step closer to these science fiction worlds which is sometimes a good or bad thing.
