VR and AR technology are both advancing at a rapid rate allowing people to use the tech like they never have before. With this advancement in technology, we are now able to use VR and AR to collaborate in environments that are artificially made. This technology is bringing ideas from science fiction into the real world and making them an actual possibility.
Before we start discussing the possible implementation of this idea, I'm going to discuss the video that was provided with the homework. The video shows off what Microsoft has been doing with the holo lens and it is actually amazing to see the strides they've taken. They are taking VR into levels of science fiction, like the scene from star wars were they discuss the rank of jedi for Anakin. There is one member not present they have a type of hologram displaying him they and he almost feels like he can interact with the environment. The Microsoft video takes this idea and further expands on it giving the user the ability to "interact" with objects that other user has. I think it is amazing that we now have some type of technology that allows us to be in the same room with someone, miles away from them. This could revolutionize the abilities for families to interact with their loved ones even if they are hundreds or thousands miles away from home. I also thought it was so surreal to see the persons conversation happening again in VR while the person who had the conversation was watching it from a distance. This felt like I was reading something straight out of science fiction book. This would change home videos and allow the families to actual re live moments from their past. This could help with patients with memory problems and allow them to experience the moments that they had lost all over again.
There doesn't really seem to be a downside to this technology, but what i fear is that people will use this tech as a supplement for human interactions. There isn't a huge problem with people doing this, but we live in a generation were many people would rather stay home then go out with others. Real life human interactions isn't the most important things for humans, but I believe that not having any would take it's toll on humans.
Besides this, we have technology kind of like the holo lens where people go online and collaborate with each other . A very popular game that came out when VR started to make another upward swing was VR chat. In this game you able to communicate with other people and work with others to complete custom games or even role play different scenarios. This became extremely popular among the gaming community and brought many people together. This may not be as serious as what Microsoft but it allowed a bunch of people around the world to join each other in games and made them feel like they were actually interacting with the people around them.
VR collaboration will most likely bring a positive situation to those who are in need of it. I still believe that actual human interaction is important and that this type of technology could eliminate that all together. A movie/book that actual shows this off is ready player one. The movie is pretty much what VR collaboration could be at a maximum level. The movie/book shows off many great things about a complete VR world, but it also shows off the issue of what happens with to people with no human interaction, even if it is only brief in parts during the film. I think the technology will help society greatly but might need to have some limits enforced on to it.
