Closure Meeting of MachComp research project (Manunet 2016)
October 25th, 2019The closure meeting of MachComp research project (Manunet 2016) will take place on Tuesday October 29th, 2019 at Sobelcomp's.
MachComp project was dedicated to the Optimization of machining of composites and stacks with dedicated cutting tools.
This European project involved the Machine Design and Production Engineering Lab of UMONS, the companies Sobelcomp (Walloon Region) and Zubiola (Basque Country), the University of Mondragon and the research centre Cenaero. The project duration was 24 months and allowed me to hire a half-time researcher for 20 months.
The studied materials were CFRP and GFRP composites and stacks made of GFRP + aluminium or stainless steel. The main objectives were
- The comprehension and modelling of cutting phenomena with experimental tests and validation
- The development of new cutting tools (lifetime, quality, etc.): drilling and lateral milling
- The reduction of the defects: circularity, delamination
The project has lead to the participation, with publication, to two international conferences: ESAFORM 2018 and ESAFORM 2019. Two journal papers on the results of the project are currently under preparation.
