The SyNTés project aimed to investigate locomotor modularity in olive baboons (Papio anubis), testing the hypothesis of muscle synergies underlying complex, multi-modal movement. This work contributes to understanding the evolutionary transition from diverse primate locomotion to human bipedalism.

Bonobo locomotor studies remain limited, but analyzing their movement helps understand habitat use, dispersal, and the impact of fragmentation on the species. From an evolutionary perspective, studying bonobo locomotion could reveal constraints faced by early hominins. This project also aims to bridge biomechanics, ecology, and paleoanthropology.

While most lemur species are threatened with extinction in Madagascar, some populations are overabundant in anthropogenic forests. Surprisingly, significant morphometric variations have been observed between sifakas (Propithecus verreauxi) living in natural gallery forests versus nearby anthropogenic forests where they thrive. This project explores whether these differences are linked to distinct posturo-locomotor repertoires and behavioral adaptations.

This project investigates the emergence of bipedalism by studying the diverse locomotor repertoire of olive baboons, using high-resolution motion capture and adaptable experimental setups. By analyzing how multiple modes of locomotion coexist and interact within the same organism, this research aims to uncover the mechanisms behind the evolution of bipedalism, bridging gaps between form, function, and adaptation in human and primate motor strategies.
