I often come across people that purchased piano on Facebook Marketplace or got one for free from friend that was giving it away (in reality trying to get rid of it with no cost, as disposal of piano is paid service). Those are not always but often 20-40 years old instruments of very low quality and had no maintenance done on them in last 10 years, if ever.
Although getting a free piano might sound reasonable and economical solution for someone who is not sure whether they or their kids will stick to it in future, the sour reality is that you have to pay for removal usually $300-500, pay for tuning another $300 and often have it tuned again shortly after because it hadn't been tuned for years. With some minor maintenance you can easily reach cost of over $1.000 just to get started. And then you find out the piano sounds horrible, strings start breaking and you have no pleasure to listen to it. So what happen next? Either you have to pay for disposal or the cycle of free piano repeats.
Easy way to avoid this is to hire a piano technician to inspect the instrument prior to purchase. The other way is to hire a piano from us...

Why are old pianos still a good choice?
Carefully maintained and service pianos can last for many decades. While the hammers, strings and some other parts often need to be replaced after 20-30 years for optimal sound, the wood which the soundboard is made of still has to offer beautiful sound you can't replicate.
