Located about 40 minutes from Les Briottières, the site of the Castle of Angers knew how to seduce builders well before the Middle Ages. The oldest constructions on this site date back to prehistoric times! The site was also favored by the Gauls for defense, then by the Romans who installed the heart of the ancient city there.
Our visit begins with a private tour—a time to wander the gardens and to view the
Tapestry of the Apocalypse.
The tapestry is 4.5 meters high and spans 103 meters. It showcases virtuoso weaving, striking details, and 74 scenes of expressive characters and themes of war, pollution, disease, famine, death, but also hope. This is one of the most unique masterpieces in the world!
On the ramparts, go back in time and discover the flora of the Middle Ages. In the hanging garden, stroll along the beds of simple plants or among the rosebushes and delicate lilies. This place invites you to daydream as you take in the breathtaking view of the heart of the castle and its Gothic architecture.
Next to this bucolic garden, visit the vineyard and the vegetable garden, which remind us of ancestral cultivation methods and the Anjou soil.
