The thesis was evaluated excellent by the examiners (Professors Vittorio Murino, Marcello Pelillo, Paola Giannini) and the external reviewer (Dr. Massimiliano Pontil). The thesis was awarded with Eduardo R. Caianiello Award 2005, promoted by Italian Neural Network Society, for the best PhD. Thesis in neural networks and machine learning.
