I'm originally from Perugia, a beautiful hilltop city in Umbria, famously known as the green heart of Italy for its rolling hills, olive groves, and peaceful landscapes.
My love for dogs started with my first family dog Mr. Magic, a beautiful Fox Terrier we adopted from Poggibonsi, a small village in the Tuscan hills. He was elegant and charming, and thanks to him I fell in love with Terriers, incredibly smart, brilliant, fast learners, playful, fearless, and fiercely determined. And with Magic, my journey into the world of dogs began.
When I was nine, my Nonni gifted me my best friend Silvestro. I could write a whole book about all the memories I cherish deeply in my heart, but it’s enough to say that we lived together like two siblings for 20 wonderful years. He taught me responsibility and what it truly means to care for another living being with love and dedication. I miss him every day.
Now let me introduce you to Bruce. He holds a very special place in my heart and life. In my family we lovingly call him "Bruceketta" like the Italian toasted bread bruschetta. He’s the love of my life and has taught me more than any textbook ever could. Bruce is actually my family’s dog in Italy, but he considers me part of the pack. Every time I come home, it feels like no time has passed since we last saw each other. We trust each other completely and spend as much time as possible together when I am home. Bruce is now 13 years old and his needs have changed over time, but he never stops teaching me. The love I feel for him can’t be expressed with any words I know.
In 2017, I moved to Toronto, and that’s when my professional life with pets truly began. I started working full time with pets just 12 days after arriving in Canada. Since then, I’ve gained extensive experience across many settings, from dog walking and puppy visits to cat sitting, doggy daycare, boarding, and training. I have cared for dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and temperaments, including shy puppies, energetic adults, and senior pets with special needs. I have worked with well-known pet care companies in Toronto, gaining valuable insights and experience. I have walked over 60 dogs, supervised more than 150 dogs in daycare, and cared for over 40 cats through cat visits. Every pet I’ve cared for has taught me something new, and I look forward to continuing this rewarding journey.Over time, I have developed a strong understanding of animal behavior and a keen ability to read dogs’ body language, recognizing subtle signals that reveal their feelings and intentions. This skill helps me anticipate and manage situations before they escalate, ensuring safety and comfort for every pet in my care. Each experience has taught me how to adapt my care to best support the health, happiness, and well-being of every animal. I have also learned that every pet is different, and that understanding their unique personality and needs is the most important part of providing great care.
In 2022, I completed a comprehensive one-year dog trainer course in Italy provided by ENCI, the Italian Kennel Club (Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana). This course complemented and deepened my knowledge of the canine world. Along with behavior and training theory, it included basic veterinary concepts and first aid, giving me a solid foundation to recognize signs of illness and respond appropriately in case of emergencies. I also learned about dog sports like agility and obedience, and why they are so important for dogs, not only as physical exercise, but as a way to stimulate their minds, strengthen their bond with humans, and boost their overall confidence and happiness. Throughout the entire course, Bruce was right there with me. We studied, trained, and discovered new things together every day. This solid foundation has enhanced my ability to care for and understand dogs on a much deeper level.
