OUR COMMITTEE
Anya (they/them)
I’m involved in climate activism because it seems very clear that we can’t leave tackling our environmental crisis to government or industries. To limit the extent of climate change and environmental degradation, I believe it’s vital that people play an active role in fighting for change.
Bec (she/her)
I study Engineering (and German) to play a part in the sustainable transformation of industry. I'm convening Fossil Free UWA this year because of my passion for the role young people play in holding our leaders accountable on climate action. Money and power are core factors prolonging the influence of the fossil fuel industry, and students can be change-makers in this area by educating each other and challenging our uni to do better!
Eddy (he/him)
I study Marine Biology and Environmental Science, and through my course I have become increasing awareness of the devastating impacts humans are having on the natural world. I joined Fossil Free because I feel a sense of responsibility to take action to care for nature.
Elsa (she/her)
I am a third year marine science student at UWA. I joined Fossil Free due to the urgency of the climate crisis. I want a liveable future, which requires temperatures to be limited to 1.5C, and I think mobilizing with other students is a way of holding our university accountable. At the moment UWA as a whole does not reflect the pressing need for change, to the contrary, it is still too tied to the LNG industry. Working with likeminded people is fun and gives me more hope too :)
Enora (she/her)
I am studying philosophy, politics and economics. I am becoming increasingly anxious about threat posed by climate change and simultaneously frustrated by the inaction of governments and other big players in our society. I believe that as students we have a responsibility to fight against the climate crisis and that we have the power to encourage meaningful change. I joined Fossil Free because it is an avenue through which I can translate my passion into action!
India (she/her)
I’m studying politics, philosophy and economics at UWA. I joined fossil free as I’m dedicated to getting UWA (and Australia as a whole!) to divest away from unsustainable energy sources, to help lead us to a cleaner safer and better future. I’m passionate about climate action as I would love to not have to worry about the state of the world, and want to do everything in my control to alleviate climate anxiety from others - ie, helping fix the planet!
Khoa (he/him)
I've always been anxious about the environmental impacts that humans and nature are facing. Furious about the inaction and excuse given to fossil fuel companies from our governments, I was keen to get involved in environment groups at UWA, especially Fossil Free. My goal as an Engagement Officer is to get more of my peers onboard with the Divestment and SNTSG campaign throughs mutual understanding, impactful education, and effective communication.
Victoria (she/her)
I study Bachelor of Philosophy in Botany and French. I am a volunteer and organiser for the Say NO to Scarborough Gas campaign both on and off campus. Both my studies and activism are driven by a desire to care for the natural world and ensure a liveable future for all, which is increasingly threatened by the fossil fuel industry.
