Thing is I cannot find official download link for the latest macOS version of FortiClient VPN offline installer. The latest I could find is _6.2.6.737_macosx.dmg but substituting the newest version 6.4.2.1305 in gets me a 404. The online installer downloads a dmg upon start so it must be from somewhere.

Often the process of the FortiClient installer connecting to the server and obtaining the files is the longest part of a job. At least if we had an offline installer, we could anticipate how long the file would take to transfer or do it as a background process, etc. My current install (update) to FortiClient on a remote laptop has taken half an hour to get to 15%.

Sometimes I (and the end user) am waiting 10+ minutes for the 'retrieving servers' and 'downloading' stages of the online installer. This could all be avoided if I could just grab an offline installer from the Fortinet site via the end-users home Internet or silently transfer an offline installer via TeamViewer/VPN in advance. It is not at all productive for them or myself to watch an installer download stuff for up to 20 minutes.

Especially when you only just need to download it once, check your temporary files in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp when the 'real setup' is engaging and get the FortiCLIENTVPN.exe file generated by the online installer, which is the full setup.

You'll be much better off getting the credentials for the support portal. The customisable installers are not available unless you have a support contract. I guess you could try asking the FN account manager as I find them really helpful.

When trying to download the installer for FortiClient, you'll find that they only provide an oh-so-helpful "Online Installer". In which, we find their "FortiClientUpdate.app". Which is also about as much use as a chocolate heat-sink as it never seems able to install updates anyway.

To do this, you're going to need to make sure that FortiClient isn't already installed on the device, otherwise I've found that it fails to download the "update". If you have, make sure you run the FortiClient Uninstaller.app from your Applications folder first.

I've tried to search for an answer but they all point to using the offline installer. I have tried to get the offline installer from Fortinet support but they are being really unhelpful and refuse to give me.

You may not be able to follow the first method for various reasons, particularly when you have a connectivity issue with the FortiClient server causing the download process to fail using the online installer repeatedly.

In this case, you can look for an offline installer on third-party sources or ask someone to share it with you. But, it would be best if you were careful when you download anything from an untrusted website.

However, now he needs to install the VPN client on a machine which isn't running Windows 10, and the "regular" Windows client for FortiGate is some kind of on-line installer... and I'm having severe problems making a firewall rule to let it work correctly.

It first opens an UDP connection on port 137 and... that's about as far as I got. I've even tried making an "All -> Any -> All" rule to see if THAT gets it to work. It didn't. The installer is stuck trying to "download" the install package.

I eventually managed to download the offline FortiClient installer using my home-machine, but I'd still like to know what just happened and why I was unable to get the client to download from our Sophos-protected network... Any suggestions?

EDIT:

Some progress - the installer tries to download the install files using regular TCP port 80. However, it does so from seemingly random IP addresses, so the Web Protection module, acting as a proxy, is either taking too long or is showing the warning message. I'd WOULD add an exception for this, except that since the IPs seem so random, I'm not sure what to add...

FortiClient VPN offline installer works on all the versions of Windows. It is also a good option for 32-bit and 64-bit users. You have to follow some simple steps given below to download this tool on your PC.

A much less familiar product, Bkis is based in Vietnam and has made a few scattered appearances in our tests, the last of which was a little over a year ago. On the last few occasions we saw some distinctly odd results, with detections apparently depending on whether others were made in the same scan, and logs being adjusted and rewritten retrospectively so that results would differ if logs were looked at during or after a scan job. This time the product came as a jumbo 354MB installer, which seemed to run with only a single click, completing very rapidly but requesting a reboot to complete. On restart, the product interface opened and immediately suggested another restart was needed. Updates also seemed a little problematic, with the interface insisting the latest definitions had been acquired, but the version information and date of the definitions remaining constant, even several months after the initial installer was downloaded.

Sticking with third-party engines, eScan is another Bitdefender-based solution, although like the previous entry it includes much of its own input. The installer was towards the upper end of the scale at 180MB. It ran through in a number of stages with moments of action interspersed with further queries, completing with a speedy scan and a request for a reboot. Updates were a little on the slow side, averaging just over five minutes over all the runs.

Parent of a couple of products already discussed here, with more still to come, Preventon has become a regular fixture on our test bench with its solution based on the VirusBuster engine. As usual, the installer measured around 90MB and ran through the standard set of steps to complete in good time, needing no reboot; updates averaged less than two minutes.

The latest version for servers came as a large 307MB installer, which set up in good time with little interaction required, completing in under a minute with no reboot called for. On one install, updates repeatedly failed, but after waiting half an hour for some unknown issue at the server side to resolve, everything seemed fine; other installs managed to update in minutes.

Back to more familiar fare, the latest offering from Sophos came as a fairly small 103MB installer, with updates very compact at just 3MB. The installation process was fairly standard and speedy, running through in under a minute with no need to reboot, and updates were also pretty zippy.

The installer provided measured 111MB, putting it among the smaller solutions this month, and the set-up process ran through just a handful of steps, some of which we actually managed to divine the meaning of. No reboot was needed to complete. e24fc04721
