L' impianto è denominato FORSU, acronimo che sta per Frazione Organica dei Rifiuti Solidi Urbani e tratta sia la frazione organica che la frazione verde vegetale pervenute attraverso raccolte differenziate dedicate. Nell'impianto i rifiuti vengono trattati in due fasi distinte:
The plant is called FORSU, an acronym which, in italian, stands for Organic Fraction of Urban Solid Waste and treats both the organic fraction and the green vegetable fraction received through dedicated differentiated collections. In the plant, the waste is treated in two distinct phases:

Si procede dapprima con il TRATTAMENTO ANAEROBICO, cioè in assenza di ossigeno, del rifiuto organico, per estrarre il BIOGAS, che è costituito prevalentemente da metano. È esattamente la replica di quello che succede in natura, quando - in assenza di ossigeno - gli scarti organici vegetali vengono trasformati in metano e intrappolati nei giacimenti sotterranei.
We proceed first with the ANAEROBIC TREATMENT, i.e. in the absence of oxygen, of the organic waste, to extract the BIOGAS, which mainly consists of methane. It is exactly the replica of what happens in nature, when - in the absence of oxygen - organic vegetable waste is transformed into methane and trapped in natural underground deposits.

La seconda fase prevede la stabilizzazione AEROBICA, cioè in presenza di ossigeno, del prodotto che esce dopo l’estrazione del Biogas, che viene miscelato alla raccolta differenziata del verde e quindi trasformato in COMPOST DI QUALITÀ per l’agricoltura, un concime ammendante organico biodegradabile. È esattamente la replica di quello che accade in un bosco, dove i rami, i frutti caduti e le foglie vengono trasformati in compost.
The second phase involves the AEROBIC stabilization, i.e. in the presence of oxygen, of the product that comes out after the extraction of the Biogas, which is mixed with the separate collection of greenery and then transformed into QUALITY COMPOST for agriculture, a biodegradable organic fertilizer . It is exactly the replica of what happens in a forest, where branches, fallen fruit and leaves are turned into compost.
L’impianto FORSU, ogni anno, è in grado di trattare circa 100 mila tonnellate di rifiuto organico proveniente dalla raccolta differenziata. Per la produzione del compost di qualità vengono inoltre riutilizzate circa 67 mila tonnellate di frazione verde, provenienti dagli sfalci e dalle potature di parchi pubblici e giardini privati. 53 mila, invece, saranno le tonnellate di compost di qualità che sono prodotte ogni anno assieme a 9.000.000 di metricubi di Biometano.
The FORSU plant, every year, is able to process about 100,000 tons of organic waste from separate collection. For the production of quality compost, around 67,000 tonnes of greenery are also reused, coming from the mowing and pruning of public parks and private gardens. 53 thousand, however, are the tons of quality compost that are produced each year together with 9,000,000 cubic meters of biomethane.
