Forged in the heart of Hell itself, deep within Immora; the Eternal Demons were the Dark Lord's first experiment into understanding the mechanisms behind eternal life. Davoth's promise to his creations was eternal life, yet he did not know how to make it so.
When the Dark Lord created the Maykrs he had hoped they would help him to understand the secrets of eternal life. Unfortunately, Davoth was betrayed by The Father and the secret project of Eternal Demons was abandoned.
When the tides of war once again waged in the battlefields of Immora, the citizens of Jekkad awoke the Eternal Demons. To this end, they were known as the Protectors of Immora and were to protect the city and its people.
The Eternal Baron would be known as a Guardian of Immora, set to protect the people of Immora and its people.
The Eternal Mancubus would be known as a Walking Fortress, set on destroying any invaders who seek to harm Immora and its people.
And; The Eternal Archvile, the Black Mage who would twist and corrupt the souls of those captured.
The three Eternal Demon varrients would each play a role in the battles of Immora, and with the secret now made public, even more Eternal Demons would be created...
Unfortunately what the Dark Lord could not predict was the Slayer's willingness to destroy all that Davoth had created. The Father's betrayal and Davoth's removal from the living paused the Eternal Demon experiment indefinitely. Although the people of Immora would later revive the project, no demon would truly be given eternal life, for this was a fallacy of the Dark Lord's design.
The Eternal Demons featured in FooSarr's remake of the concept are in fact the apex of demon evolution however, they're not complete and despite their sturdy exterior, certainly not immortal beings. Perhaps if the Dark Lord is to be revived the Eternal Demons could resurface once more, but instead of being protectors of Immora, they would be Hell's army instead...
Each Eternal Demon is clad in Immorian Armour. This armour reduces the damage they take by 85% and can be broken by exploiting each of these demons weak points.
Destroying each weak point in quick sucession will break the demon's armour for around 15 seconds.
Once the armour regenerates, the demon regains 50% of the total damage recieved as health making them near immortal.
I wanted each of the Eternal Demons to be clad in specially red armour. The image I modified for the Eternal Archvile is originally from the concept art for the Dark Lord. This style of Immorian Armour I think fits best for my ideal version of Eternal Demons, and would be what I would like the other two demons to be wearing but I never reached out to any artists for this concept.
The actual design process of these demons was quite simple. Like all the other renders I create for these videos, I imported a model to Source Filmmaker and tweaked some of the values of the armour to turn it red, then added effects in post.
If I ever return to this concept, one thing I forgot to add / change about these demons is the Slayer's Sigil on their chest. I, in truth, have no idea of the lore surrounding it, but I think for an apex demon it at least looks symbollic and cool. The Dark Lord has the sigil on his back, so I figured it would work for his most prized creations, too.
In every aspect of the Eternal Demons, I wanted to ensure that their theming remained consistent to the themes of Immora. While I would love to see these demons unleashed into every level, the lore I created for them sees them only ever active in Immora, so I wanted to almost make them extensions of that level's core design.
On the 18th of July 2021, FooSarr originally uploaded his concept for Eternal Demons. This featured only the Eternal Baron and a general overview of how Eternal Demons as a concept could be adapted to other demons.
"It was always my plan to create more Eternal Demons, and in fact for that first Eternal Demons video I was going to have the Archvile and Mancubus as Eternal variants, too. At the time I thought that the video length would be too long, and it would be too much effort so the idea was shelved. It was always my plan to revisit Eternal Demons, I just had no idea it would be in 2026, nearly 5 years later."
The original Eternal Demons video was planned to include an Eternal variant of the following demons:
Baron of Hell
Mancubus
Archvile
Pain Elemental
However, FooSarr went on to state that regardless of his new approach to making FooCept's in 2026, the Eternal Pain Elemental just did not seem fun, so it was cut from the original video, and it's remake.
"I really didn't like the first itteration of my concept for Eternal Demons. About a month or two after making it I realised that it was just my 'Elemental Baron' concept with armour. It felt lazy... It was always my plan to share the Eternal Mancubus and Archvile in a future video, I contemplated doing it as seperate videos but as fate would have it, this was not the case."
Eternal Demons were built around the concept of regenerative armour. This was inspired by the Armoured Baron from Doom Eternal's Ancient Gods Part 2 DLC. Oddly enough, before being aware of the fact that the Armoured Baron was going to be coated in red armour, FooSarr had already envisoned the demon being an asset of Immora. This later led him to create the concept we all know today.
"I figured that reinterpateing a familiar concept would resonate well with audiences as it's something within the realm of possibility. At the time of the first Eternal Demon's video, everyone in the community just wanted more difficulty in Doom. ID Software had just nerfed TAG1's original enemy placement which annoyed a lot of people, myself included. So to rectify this, I wanted to take something from TAG2 and really up the anti. Then as fate would have it, Eternal Demons!"
FooSarr has gone on record many times about how much he disliked how ID Software handled the final level of Doom Eternal, Immora. Almost in spite of its seemingly rushed design, he created his channel, FooSarr and wanted to share his ideas on how everything could've been handled better. This brings us full circle to what comes next in the FooVerse saga...
