The history

Football is one of the most popular sports in the world and its history is very long. Many ancient cultures played games with a ball but modern football started in England. In the 1800s English schools and universities began to play ball games with their own rules. Every place had different rules so in 1863 a group of people in London created the Football Association. They made the first official rules of football and this was the beginning of modern football. Football soon spread to other countries in Europe and South America. It became very popular because it was simple and you only needed a ball and some space. In 1904 FIFA was created to organize football around the world. The first World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay and since then it has become the biggest football event in the world. Today football is played everywhere and people of all ages enjoy it. Football is not only a sport but also a global passion that brings people together. The first footballs were made many years ago and were very different from the balls we use today. They were made of leather and sometimes their shape was not perfect so they were hard to control. Later the balls became rounder and better for playing. The first big football trophy was the World Cup trophy created for the tournament in 1930. It was called the Jules Rimet Trophy and it was given to the team that won the first World Cup in Uruguay.
