ONE PIECE. ONE VISION.
Built around the Space Fits pearl beanie, this self-portrait series explores the tension between softness and rebellion.

MATTHEW LACRIME
An exploration of creativity, struggle and the stories left behind by the people who create.
Inspired by the hands, imperfections and emotional weight behind the creative process, Painters Denim transforms the canvas into clothing. Every mark, layer and imperfection represents the unseen hours behind the finished work — a tribute to artists who continue to create even when nobody is watching.

LACRIME — Painters Denim
BY MATTHEW LACRIME
AN EXPLORATION OF RAWNESS, LUXURY AND SELF-EXPRESSION.
Denim on Denim marks a step deeper into my identity as a photographer, creative and art director. Created as a self-portrait, the shoot became an opportunity to explore how I could introduce rawness, imperfection and personality into a visual world that still feels refined and luxurious.
Rather than choosing between raw and polished, I wanted to find the space where the two could exist together , where controlled lighting, styling and composition meet natural attitude, texture and emotion.
This project allowed me to move beyond simply taking photographs and begin thinking about the world surrounding the image: the styling, environment, mood, posing, visual language and story.
A study of what luxury can look like when it isn't afraid to be raw.

LAYERS OF SORROW FPP 26
PHOTOGRAPHER: Matthew Lacrime
MODEL; Anascha Dennis
CONCEPT
LAYERS OF SORROW explores the physical and emotional weight of grief, using the human body, fabric and organic elements as visual metaphors.
Growth that slowly becomes impossible to escape.
Vulnerability exposed through softness and restraint.
Isolation within an environment that begins to overwhelm.
The environment was constructed to make the subject feel both delicate and surrounded. White fabric creates softness against the darkness, while the vines introduce a sense of growth, attachment and emotional weight. The composition was directed to make the subject feel as though she exists within the environment rather than simply in front of it.

Creating an environment where sorrow becomes physical.
The art direction for LAYERS OF SORROW was built around the idea of making an internal emotion feel visible. I created a controlled environment using sheer fabric, artificial greenery, a dark backdrop and minimal white styling to surround the subject with contrasting textures.
The vines became a representation of emotional attachment ,something delicate that slowly grows, wraps around the body and becomes difficult to escape. The soft fabric and white wardrobe introduce vulnerability, while the darkness surrounding the subject creates a feeling of isolation and emotional weight.
Every element of the set was intentionally positioned to make the subject feel as though she was becoming part of the environment rather than simply existing within it.
