What was achieved:
Pathfinders undertook welding theory induction, covering aspects aspects of:
· Safety (Work methods, Personnel Protective Equipment, Safe equipment use)
· Methodology
· Theory
Supervision was conducted under the supervision of qualified boiler maker and
other trade personnel.
Practical component of the honour involved weld assembly of the 3mm plate steel
templates of various dinosaur skeletons, butterfly. Which the pathfinders were
required to weld in place and secure and prepped for painting.
What was learned:
Pathfinders learned the fundamentals of safe welding of metals, how to look after
equipment and the basic theory of the welded process. As well as importance of
work safety, co-operating within a group.

the pathfinders to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the corals and the Cnidaria
species.
The honour required:
· Demonstrate knowledge of Coral.
· Demonstrate Knowledge of Coral Colonies.

and group them in their correct classifications.
What was achieved:
Pathfinders undertook coral theory induction, covering aspects of:
· Marine Safety (While observing Coral in their natural environment)
· Theory of Cnidaria (Coral)
· Marine Ecosystems
Supervision was conducted under the supervision of qualified bronze medallion
supervisor.
Practical component of the honour involved snorkelling off Fitzroy Island in Far
north Queensland. So that pathfinders could identify the different species of coral
and their various subclasses.
What was learned:
Pathfinders learned the fundamentals of marine safety, how to identify the
classifications of coral and their subclasses, the Anatomy of Coral. Appreciate the
delicate ecosystem in which coral live and respect the marine environment.
AND SHELL HONOUR
Requirements:
The FNQ pathfinders undertook the shell honour in 2017, in conjunction with the
Dunk Island Campout. This honour required the pathfinders to demonstrate a
sound knowledge of Mollusc’s.
The honour required:
· Parts of mollusc and their habitat.
· Explain Univalve and Byvalve applied to shells.

· Camping and Games
Supervision was conducted under the supervision of team leaders and qualified
bronze medallion supervisor.
What was learned:
Pathfinders learned the fundamentals of Mollusc species (shells), how to identify
the classifications of shell and their subclasses, the Anatomy of Mollusc’s.
Appreciate the delicate ecosystem in which coral live and respect the marine
environment.
Requirements:
The FNQ pathfinders yearly visit the Malanda Ozcare old age nursing home, and
put on a concert were the children sang, read poetry and played instruments.
This is just one of the outreach activities that the children do every year. This
activity is designed to encourage the children to participate in community service
to those in need.
What was achieved:
Pathfinders presented to the Nursing Home:
· Poetry
· Sang a number of songs.
· Played musical instruments
· Gave out flowers to Nursing home residents.
What was learned:
Pathfinders undertake this activity to learn:
· Respect for the elderly
· To be active in their community in providing service and showing care for
those that need it.
Requirements:
