The FN Basketball Prep Team was created to provide a pathway for athletes ready to compete at a higher level while gaining the exposure needed to advance in their basketball journeys. The program itself was inspired by a simple but meaningful request — Rashawn Taniskishayinew asking for the opportunity to play one more year under head coach Daniel Stonechild. From that moment, the vision for FN Prep was formed.
Built on a foundation of culture, accountability, and community, the program focuses on developing not only skilled players, but disciplined and resilient young men.
In its first year, the prep program made an immediate impact, competing in high-level environments like The Dime Sessions. Our athletes consistently proved they belong, earning respect across the league for their hustle, grit, and the way they compete together.
This season brought meaningful recognition for both our athletes and coaching staff. Rashawn Taniskishayinew, a player within the program and coach with FN Basketball, was named to the league’s All-Star Second Team. Head coach Daniel Stonechild was also nominated for Coach of the Year, reflecting the leadership, culture, and standard being built within the program.
Beyond results, this team represents something bigger. Coaches and spectators have consistently shared how much they enjoy watching our group compete — not only for their effort and chemistry, but for the pride they carry as a team of Indigenous athletes performing at a high level.
A key milestone this year was Rashawn Taniskishayinew’s commitment to continue his basketball career at Olds College while pursuing Business Management. His journey reflects the core purpose of FN Basketball — to create real opportunities and support athletes in reaching the next level in both sport and life.
FN Basketball will continue to build on this momentum, advocating for our athletes and creating meaningful pathways for their future.
