I was quite confident writing the script because I had done it before in previous units. Writing a script is very important for a short film because it is the foundation for the narrative. However, I was slightly unsure how to write a telephone conversation without it being regular dialogue so I researched how to do it. I learnt you put V.O next to the person on the phone which has added to my knowledge of scriptwriting.
HOW I CREATED THE SCRIPT
I used studio binder to create the script. In the 'scripts and stories' unit we used this platform so I was comfortable with the layout; I used what I learnt in that unit to write the script.
HOW IT WILL HELP FOR FILMING
The narrative is broken down into scenes which will help organise the shooting schedule and what to film for each day. For example, I can say to the actors "we are filming scene 5 today". This helps them prepare for the scene and keep on track
Instead of the wish being about having more gold stars than Christina, it will be "Dear diary, I want my English teacher to favour me above everyone else even Christina".
Drawing the storyboard really helped me visualise how I want the shot types and camera angles in the film to look as well as the aesthetics. This will ensure the production is well structured as I have something to follow along to.
HOW I DID THE STORYBOARD
I printed out the storyboard templates and used the script to help produce the drawings. In previous units, we learnt the importance of storyboarding. For example adding arrows shows the viewer what movement is happening
To create the shot list, I followed my storyboard and script to finalise the shot types and camera angles. Writing down a detailed shot list is useful to me as it gives an exact checklist of all the shot types I need to include.
This helps in outlining potential health problems when filming. To identify these problems, it helps prevent them for when it's time to film
