Frequently Asked Questions

• When are practices and what is my time commitment?

  • All practices will be held at Hazelwood Middle School (1021 Hazelwood Avenue, New Albany) and are set to begin May 23. Practices will be available 9-10:30 a.m. Monday-Friday and 6:30-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Once meets begin on June 6, there will be no Monday or Tuesday morning practices. Lessons for beginners will be held 6-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s UP TO YOU how many practices your swimmer attends. Some attend once or twice a week. Some attend both practices every day.

• When are meets and do I have to attend?

  • Meets are on Mondays, starting June 6. There is one Thursday meet (June 23) at Charlestown. The season-ending Champs meet is set for Saturday, July 9 at West Clark. Parents should let coaches know which meets they WILL NOT be attending, so appropriate plans can be made. There are lists for each meet available before and after practices.

• Do I have to live in Floyd County in order to be on the team?

  • No. This is not like Little League baseball. If you can make it practices, you can be on the team.

• What equipment do I need?

  • Swimsuits, cap and goggles. Team suits are not required, but are encouraged. If you do not purchase a team suit, please have a suit with blue to match the team colors.

Lessons FAQ

• How do I know if my child is ready for the team or needs lessons instead?

  • If your child can swim a 25 (length of the pool) without stopping, they are ready for the team! Evaluations will be held on May 21 from 9-11. Please plan to attend and we will determine the level of experience for your child and make sure they are placed in the right group.
