ODABA's research team, led by Professor V. A. Arsiriy, developed a method for physical modeling with visualization of the flow structure of liquids and gases (FS-VD – flow structure visual diagnostic). This method became the basis for channel design technology with flow structure adjustments to optimize dynamic processes. The method was patented in the USA, Ukraine, and 86 countries worldwide in 1998. More than 30 projects have been completed in Ukraine, the USA, Poland, and other countries, resulting in significant improvements in equipment and system performance (reducing energy costs by 1.5 to 2 times, reducing noise, and improving energy, environmental, and economic indicators).
A new physical method for flow structure visualizing of dynamic processes allows for equipment to be configured not only for maximum efficiency (the quality of conversion of different types of energy), but also improves a new dynamic process quality indicator – DYNAMISM (characterizing resistance reduction). The combined use of efficiency and dynamism indicators characterizes the performance of energy systems. The FS-VD method can change the performance of energy systems just as Rentgen-rays changed the quality of medicine.
Design using VD-SP allows for improved performance using a simple technology for correcting channel geometry with inserts inside the equipment.
Most companies have pumping and ventilation systems. We have completed over 20 successful projects. In 1997, at the Bruch power plant (Colorado, USA), a project commissioned by COLORADO POWER PARTNERS involved changing the geometry of the compressor inlet manifold, which resulted in a 20% increase in air flow to the turbine.
FSVD group is seeking partners to collaborate and further develop the VD method and design technology to solve complex dynamic problems and improve power equipment and systems.
