Florence Beatrice Price (April 9, 1887 – June 3, 1953) was an African-American classical composer born into an integrated community in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Despite facing challenges and prejudice during her time, she persevered. Her music was considered lost for good until some of her pieces were discovered in 2009. Today, she is regarded as a significant figure in music history.
