Motled Javas are one of the oldest Amercian breeds known, dating back to the early 1800s! Javas fell out of popularity in the late 1880s and were almost extinct by the 20th century. They are currently listed as critical by the Livestock Conservancy. I think these well mannered, large, and friendly hens deserve some attention! They're a great choice for anyone looking for a buddy chicken with egg laying lower on the priority list. These sweet birds lay approximately 180 large brown eggs/year. Their mottled black and white feathers are unique and change with each molt. Javas tend to do well in mixed flocks.
