Igniting Introverts' Input: Christina Godard

  • The world is full of introverts and extroverts.
  • How they interact with the world varies.
  • For introverts, it can be exhausting to get their voices heard.
  • We much look for ways to support and ignite ownership of Student Voice that fits.
  • Systematic plans lets students make decisions and a means to do it with.
  • 4Cs are essential to build this way of supporting students: Think Campfire not Party atmosphere... comfortable space to share ideas and thoughts.
  • Student directed learning allows choice which can open the door for introverts to let their voice and participation to be ignited.
  • Choice boards, bingo boards, tic tac toe boards all ramp up choice which is GREAT for these students!
  • Everyday, every minute is when this needs to be built in... not just once for the product of learning.
  • Stop brainstorming in groups. Honor individual brainstorming.
  • Let them gather thoughts and ideas as an individual first, then join as a group to discuss and collaborate. Eliminates personalities dominating the direction a brainstorm session may go in..
  • Be careful not to overmodel. Students want to please. If offered too many models, creativity goes out the window. The ripple effect is not what we hope for students.
  • Show a model, remove a model, check in w/ a model, remove a model, let student creativity drive the bus.
