Fitsum Deriba is an Independent Scholar at the University of Eastern Finland, and Assistant Proffessor at Wachemo University, where he is pursuing research in Artificial Intelligence, focusing on enhancing accessibility through future technologies. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science at the School of Computing, University of Eastern Finland. His research focuses on making educational technologies accessible, inclusive, and user-centered, specifically within the fields of learning analytics and Human-Centered AI.

With over eight years of experience in teaching, research, and administrative roles, Fitsum has held several academic positions, including Early Career Researcher and Teaching Assistant at the University of Eastern Finland. He has served as Head of Computer Science, Department Research Coordinator, and Undergraduate Project Coordinator, and worked as a lecturer at Wachemo University, Ethiopia.

Fitsum has published over twenty research papers in reputable journals and conferences. He has reviewed over 50 conference papers and 70 journal papers. Even though he is an early-stage researcher, his work has been cited over three three hundred on Google Scholar. His research has received attention in various domains, including Human-Centered AI design, accessibility and inclusivity, AI in education, computing education, and AI in healthcare. He has also been invited to review for multiple academic journals—including those from Elsevier, Springer, and IEEE—as well as various conferences, showcasing his expertise in these fields.
