Fire from the sky: understanding lightning fires in the Pyrocene

Welcome to FIRESKY!

FIRESKY is a research project aiming to improve the understanding on wildfires caused by lightning. It is a two-year project (2022-2023) funded by the Government of Asturias (Spain) through FICYT (AYUD/2021/58534), and managed from the Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences, University of Turin (Italy).

Despite lightning is the primary natural cause of wildfire ignition throughout the world, knowledge and data on lightning-caused fires are still limited. FIRESKY seeks to create a network of international researchers working on lightning and wildfires to cope with these limitations and respond to the increasing demand of knowledge and modeling tools for studying lightning-caused fires around the world in a global change context.
