Finn Mellon

Hey Finn Mellon here,

Professional windsurfer and windsurf coach. I am lucky to spend my days chasing wind and waves wherever that takes me. When i am not on the water myself, I love to coach. I started with Windsurf Instructing at Club Vass in Greece, From here I moved into Surf coaching and Windsurf Coaching.

I am lucky enough to call Brandon Bay my home and it is where I learnt to windsurf and surf and then it also allowed me to really improve my windsurfing ability and shape the person I am today. I spent my teenage years travelling chasing the windsurf summer training and competing with the world's best.

I spent 4 years studying at ATU Sligo where I graduated with a BSE degree in Health Science & Physical. Those years in college were well spent, I was lucky to have a little different college experience than most, Within 20 minutes from the college campus I had some of europe's best waves and surfers, surrounding myself with the guys in Sligo was really special, I learnt so much from these guys. Growing up my dad and I were always coaching and filming each other which allowed me to reach the level I have, and lit the spark of intrest in windsurf coaching and especially perfecting wave sailing techniques. During college I started working with a Grom Squad in Bundoran, Coaching a bunch of up & coming rippers who are sure to be future irish champs (I cant claim all the praise, they put in serious work!). I also started spending my summers working in the sunny paradise of Club Vass in Greece. If you havent been, you should ! It is such a beautiful place and a great place to windsurf, Over my 5 years here I taught all levels of windsurfing from beginners,kids to freestyle sessions. I feel I have found a real passion in coaching watersports and espcially windsurfing, I love to see and share the stoke of enjoying windsurfing. 

My Goal is to make sure people are enjoying and loving their windsurfing. Having fun out there is the most important thing right ? Whether I achieve this by helping you to progress and land that new move you have always wanted or putting you in the best location to make the most of your windsurf (or surf) trip.

Why did I want get into Coaching Camps ?

Growing up I have always been around the yearly Brandon bay clinics that come to visit my home, sailing the same spots and helping them with local info whenever I can. That had me thinking 'why shouldn't I start my own clinic?" who better to run a Brandon bay clinic than me who has been windsurfing here all my life. I am excited to share my knowledge and love for my home of Brandon Bay.

Whats next ?

I am really enjoying where life is taking me at the moment, I want to keep growing my coaching business, chasing my dreams of being a professional windsurfer, traveling the world with boards and sails and to keep enjoying the place i love the most, Ireland !
