Workshop on

Economic & Financial Networks

NetSci-X Special Workshop | Tokyo, Japan | January 23rd, 2020

Networks are found everywhere in economics: networks of banks, stocks, companies, countries, regions, industries, products, simulated economic agents, and so on. These networks carry their own compelling questions, but are far from independent of one another. Financial and economic networks are studied across a wide variety of fields using different disciplinary perspectives and tools. The insights from this work get at the heart of major and urgent problems in today’s world - progress in this area can’t come fast enough!

Associated with NetSci-X 2020 in Tokyo, Japan this special workshop will benefit from both the rich interdisciplinary community in Network Science and from Japan's status as a nexus for research in economic and financial networks. The workshop aims to bring together researchers active in this area from across disciplines and areas of the world to discuss state-of-the-art work, share practical knowledge, and create opportunities for novel and fruitful collaborations.

Attendant to this aim is to inspire and encourage a new generation of researchers in economic and financial networks. To this end, this workshop is partnering with the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking to support the participation of highly motivated Young Scholars in related disciplines. Such participants will gain insights in network science and its application to economics as well as valuable feedback on presentations and posters by experienced mentors and peers.
