Garrison Hunt (2017 Drama)
Garrinson Hunt recently performed at the famed, NYC venue, 54 Below! Garrison has continued to perform since he graduated from Geneseo. He has also returned as a substitute and has offered acting and singing classes to the community members as well.
Matthew is currently studying abroad in Spain and making music in his spare time!
Matthew Capel (2019 Drama)
Today, I am earning my bread and butter with the public speaking and acting skills that I developed during my time in the various GCS fine arts programs. When away at school, I work as a ghost tour guide in Colonial Williamsburg, leading tourists on spooky tours of the historic district. I am thrilled that I have been able to keep some of my fine arts experience alive in my time at William & Mary.
More than that, however, I am so grateful for the experience that I had as a member of the GCS fine arts programs, and for the community support that made such an experience possible. To me, the arts were so much more than a place to practice a certain skill set; they were an opportunity to pursue my passions and cultivate a wonderful sense of family with like-minded people. Since graduation, I’ve not forgotten what it feels like to engage with a live audience, nor the feeling that comes from sharing that engagement with people who care about the arts just as much as I do. Joining the GCS fine arts programs was one of the best decisions I made in high school, and I will treasure that experience for all time.

Josh DeBell (2017 Band)
My name is Josh DeBell and I am currently a senior attending SUNY Geneseo with a double major in both musicology and history. I am planning to attend graduate school in the fall of 2021 in order to pursue a masters and Ph.D. in music with my goal to become a musicology professor.
Throughout last year the arts have been something I looked to as a way to deal with disruptions caused by the pandemic. Even though I took all of my college courses online I was still able to participate in SUNY Geneseo’s Wind Ensemble where I play the tuba. I found great joy and relief that even though I was away from my colleagues I could still perform music with them. I hope to continue to find ways to continue to play music and perform with others in the upcoming spring semester.
My music courses at GCS, specifically chorus and band, helped me develop my love for performing. This is because both courses’ instructors helped students understand how to perform pieces and recognize the emotional weight behind them as well. Chorus, band and my participation in Drama Club provided a fun and welcoming environment that allowed me to make lifelong friendships.
Jared Mackenzie (2020 Band)
Jared is currently attending R.I.T. and was recently featured in a story from Dan Gross on Channel 8 news. Check out the video or click here for the full article from RochesterFirst.com. The story is about Jared's participation in a record label course offered at the college.
Makenzee Cohoon (2014 Chorus)
I currently live in NYC and am a Process Engineer for The Estee Lauder Companies. Basically in cooking terms I write the recipes for different products to be made in manufacturing - figuring out mixing times/speeds, heating/cooling temperatures, when to add certain ingredients, etc.!
Being a part of the GCS fine arts, particularly Drama Club, was one of the best decisions I ever made. It was a great outlet to meet new people I may not have interacted with otherwise. I made so many good friends and had so many fun times during rehearsals and show nights. I think everyone would enjoy being a part of this group and even if someone didn't want to be out on stage, I would highly recommend them to take on a crew role.
Sean Kelly (2016 Orchestra)
Hi, my name is Sean Kelly, and I am a current graduate student at the University of Notre Dame. I graduated from GCS in 2016 after participating in orchestra, chorus, and band from elementary school through senior year. I was blessed to attend GCS due to its incredible teachers, administrators, directors, and coaches; the extremely supportive community; and the impressive well-roundedness of the school. GCS is set apart from many other small public schools in our area by this well-roundedness--academic and athletic success is combined with amazing arts programs and opportunities for creativity. The music and drama programs were highlights of my experience and gave me opportunities to develop talents, form lasting relationships, and learn about personal accountability and commitment. Receiving a Fine Arts Boosters scholarship during my senior year was an affirmation of years of growth and commitment, and was key in encouraging me to continue to perform during college.
As an undergraduate student at Notre Dame, I played the trumpet in marching and jazz bands. I had opportunities with the marching band to travel the country (and got paid to do it) to play in NYC, Dallas, San Antonio, Orlando (Disney World parades are awesome!), Tampa, and Chicago. I performed with the rock band Chicago and one of the world's great trumpeters, Arturo Sandoval. My first paid job at Notre Dame was singing and performing at a conference for HS students. I've built sets and performed with a student theatrical company, and to this day, I play piano for Sunday Mass. Participating in fine arts programs at GCS had a profound impact on my life, and the arts continue to--and always will--shape my life in wonderful ways.
Carlea Grant (2018 Drama)
I am currently a Theatre Arts major at SUNY Fredonia, where I just finished stage managing the fall mainstage production of Macbeth, and this spring I will be stage managing a student run production of The Persians.
While the pandemic created new challenges in the creation of theatre, participating in virtual stage readings, and theatre seminars helped to provide a distraction from many of the issues surrounding the country.
The arts have always been a large part of my life, and being a part of them at GCS really helped make my time there more enjoyable and helped to prepare me for the work that I am currently doing in college.
