Service Hour Opportunities
Confirmand candidates must take the initiative to make sure their hours are completed. If the standard suggestions do not suit them or their schedule, then they need to offer an alternative solution according to their personal resources of time, talent, and treasure. The DRE is not responsible for tailoring a plan to suit every candidate...THE STUDENTS ARE. The ONLY 2 REQUIREMENTS ARE:
- 4 HRS/MONTH (16 mos in the program X 4 hrs/mo = 64 hrs total unless otherwise stated)
- "IN SERVICE TO ST FRANCIS DE SALES PARISH"
Some possible ministries for accomplishing this are suggested below:
1. Lectors or Altar servers can claim 1 hr for each Mass served plus required training time
a) Benefit: you get your hours completed during Mass time
b) See bulletin for altar server and lector contacts
2. Ushers or Eucharistic Ministers can be awarded ½ hr for each Mass served plus required training time
a) Benefit: you get some hours completed during Mass time
b) See bulletin for usher and EM contact
3. Bulletin stuffing on Fridays or Saturdays
a) Coordinate with Lori McLaughlin and/or me
4. Child Care assistant during the 9:30 a.m. Mass This opportunity is currently full!
a) Benefit: you get credit for the hour even if no children show up
b) Coordinate with me
5. Junior High Religious Education classroom assistant
a) Benefit: You get regular class attendance credit and volunteer time credit at the same time
b) Opportunities are limited and students must pass or retake knowledge tests, so see me if interested
6. Prayer Garden beautification (weeds, bush/tree trimming, rock cover redistribution, etc.)
a) Benefit: you can make your own hours, but requires initiative and physical durability
b) Coordinate with me
7. Helping at Youth Group events IF not already fulfilling Youth Group member requirements
a) Contact Lori McLaughlin
8. Helping at Parish hosted dinners and social events
a) Benefit: Food!!!
b) Contact Ms. Milly in the Parish Office "house" for upcoming events
9. Odd jobs around St Francis de Sales proper
a) Any official Staff Employee of St Francis de Sales can approve these, but said authority must also vouch for their completion
10. PROPOSE YOUR OWN SERVICE HOUR OPPORTUNITY THAT DIRECTLY SUPPORTS SFDS PARISH WHILE GIVING YOU THE FLEXIBILITY AND CREATIVE SPACE THAT YOU NEED.
