Our site is exactly five miles from the heart of downtown Gering. You can drive 5 minutes into town and have a great breakfast and delicious specialty coffee at The Mixing Bowl, or visit The Emporium for a french pastry and a real-fruit smoothie, sit outside on the patio with a beer and eat a truly memorable prime rib at The Union Bar & Grill, fill a prescription at USave Pharmacy, get groceries at Fresh Foods, gas up, and even visit the world-class Legacy of the Plains Museum in a mere 3-mile drive from your campsite.

When it's HOT outside, cool off  

Lake Minatare State Recreational Area - If you go in the afternoon, stay on the west side, if you go before noon use the east side. Good beaches and swimming 30 minutes away from camp. A Nebraska State Park (Day) Pass is required, and can be purchased at Stage Coach Stop (320 M Street, Gering) just 4 miles away from camp. 

Gering Swimming Pool  Nice public pool with a water slide, kiddie pool and larger pool. Check website for open swim hours. 4 miles away from camp. (https://www.gering.org/gering-swimming-pool). The pool is closed after August 8.

Downtown Gering's Chinese favorite. Traditional menu, they will not disappoint. Take out or eat in.  Closed on Mondays.

The Log Cabin Restaurant & Lounge

Excellent down home cooking for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Delicious homemade pies. Check times for dinner, the kitchen closes early.  Full bar and Keno. Closed on Sundays.

Flyover Brewery

The first brewery in the Nebraska Panhandle, Flyover Brewing Company has taken pride in its beer, food and location since 2018. Using malt produced in Nebraska, and locally grown adjuncts such as sugar beets, their award- winning brewer has years of experience in the craft, producing both true to style lagers and ales along with innovative locally themed brews. Located in a renovated building in downtown Scottsbluff, beer enthusiasts can enjoy an atmosphere usually only found in larger cities, while sitting on the patio watching small town life pass by. Legacy of the Plains Museum (just 3 miles away)

World Class Museum telling the story of westward expansion, farming, and more. Fantastic, interactive exhibits for young people and adults. You won't want to miss this nationally recognized museum!  

Scotts Bluff National Monument (Just 4 miles away)

This national park will not disappoint. Drive or hike to the summit to take in the view of the whole Gering Valley from every angle. Check out the new Visitor's Center.

Western Nebraska Pioneers Baseball at Oregon Trail Park (a straight shot just 3 miles away)

Monument Shadows Golf Course and Clubhouse (just 5 miles away)

Enjoy the beautiful setting at Monument Shadows Golf in Gering, Nebraska.  This well-designed 18-hole course is good for both beginners and pros for league play, open play and several tournaments throughout the year. 

Chimney Rock National Historic Site (Just 22 miles away)

Feel the awe and curiosity the pioneers experienced when they saw the most famous landmark on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. The Chimney Rock Museum showcases a unique collection that tells the story of the most documented landmark of the western trails of the 1800s. Be sure to visit the pioneer children's cemetery.

Riverside Discovery Center Zoo (just 5 miles away)

Check out the only AZA Accredited zoo in Western Nebraska.  This small but mighty zoo fosters many delightful experiences. Among the animals you can see, there are Chimpanzees and other primates, Lion, Bobcat, Tiger, Leopard, and a new Bear exhibit.  A petting zoo and water splash pad is available for kids. 

Wildcat Nature Center and Shooting Range (just 9 miles away)

The Wildcat Hills Nature Center exhibits and activities offer visitors a chance to discover this pine-clad butte range. Through interactive displays and interpretive programming, visitors can uncover the common plants and animals that call this area home. Bird viewing is a must at the Wildcat Hills. It boasts a large viewing area with several feeders and a view overlooking the North Platte River valley. Other exhibits explore the past life of the Wildcat Hills through interpretive paleontology and archeology displays. There are also many hiking trails and a shooting range nearby.
