Easy mode is (of course) the easiest mode in the game, the enemies run a bit slower than usual, they are not as hard to get away from, and the players health takes longer to lower than in any of the other modes. The enemies also have louder sounds for their footsteps, and also, the enemies take longer to hear your footsteps when you get too close. The Enemies also learn the players behavior slower than usual.
If you get caught by one of the enemies, you'll start at your last save but won't lose any progress that you made in the game.
Normal mode is the default mode that Final Escape is played in. Unless the player selects another game mode before they begin, the game will start up in Normal Mode.
The Enemies run at their normal speed, which means the Ostrich runs faster than you, they are quite hard to get away from, the players health lowers at a normal speed. The enemies footsteps are at their default volume, the enemies will hear your footsteps at the default distance, and the enemies will learn the players behavior at the normal speed.
If you get caught by one of the enemies, you'll go back to your last save, but won't lose any progress unless you exit the before saving again.
Hard mode is more difficult than Normal mode but isn't over the top difficult.
Enemies run a bit faster than they usually do, which means that the Murderer runs a bit faster than you and the Ostrich runs much faster than you, the enemies are much harder to escape once they start chasing you, the enemies footsteps are quieter than usual, the enemies will hear your footsteps a bit further away than usual, and the enemies learn the players behavior faster than usual.
If you get caught by one of the enemies, you'll go back to your last save and have to redo what you did after you saved your game, which means if you made progress after you saved and didn't save again, you'll have to redo that part.
Extreme mode is much more difficult than normal mode.
The player can't see quite as far away as usual, and the environment is a bit darker than usual.
All the enemies run faster than the player, the enemies are much harder to escape to escape once they start chasing you than in Hard Mode, the enemies footsteps are much quieter and very hard to hear, the enemies will hear your footsteps at the same distance as Hard Mode, and the enemies learn the players behavior much faster than usual.
If you get caught by one of the enemies, you'll go back to your last save and have to redo what you did after you saved your game, which means if you made progress after you saved and didn't save again, you'll have to redo that part.
Nightmare mode is very similar to Extreme mode, except there is 1 thing different that will make it much harder to beat the game in.
The player can't see quite as far away as usual, and the environment is a bit darker than usual.
All the enemies run faster than the player, the enemies are much harder to escape to escape once they start chasing you than in Hard Mode, the enemies footsteps are much quieter and very hard to hear, the enemies will hear your footsteps at the same distance as Hard and Extreme Mode, and the enemies learn the players behavior much faster than usual.
If you get caught by one of the enemies while playing in Nightmare mode, you will be sent back to the beginning of the game and will lose all of your progress in the game. So if you get caught in Nightmare mode, you have to restart the entire game.
If you ever decide to play Final Escape in Nightmare mode, prepare to suffer.
Custom Mode is a mode where the player can change the difficulty of each of the enemies for their playthrough, they can change if the environment is darker or not, and they can change the settings for saving the game, as well as whether they'll have to start the whole game over if they get caught.
To Unlock Custom Mode you have to beat either Extreme Mode or Nightmare Mode.
The characters AI is programmed to get smarter during certain events. They are able to learn your routines, strategies, and can become more alert and aware of everything around them. So it can be very hard to sneak around the enemies the same way every time.
Each of the characters in Final Escape play a different role in the games story line. For example, the enemies are a danger to the player and can prevent the player from progressing in the game. The background characters will play a role in the games story line, just like the rest of the major characters. And the player's character is the main part of the game.
For more information, check out the Characters Page.
The story line will mainly stay the same each playthrough, but your choices can affect you in the future.
Dropping your flashlight and not being able to find it, could make it harder to find things in dark places. Leaving doors open, or turning on and off lights, could cause the enemies to become more alert and smarter because if they see something out of the ordinary they'll remember it and it can make gameplay harder. Breaking windows will make a lot of noise, so if one of the enemies runs over and sees the broken window, they'll know that someone is there and they'll become more alert and aware of their surroundings.
In Final Escape, there are multiple ways the player can die. Some of the obvious ways they can die are through Stabbing, Electrocution, Falling, and Body Function Failure.
Each cause of death is only met under certain circumstances. To get stabbed to death, you need to get caught by the Murderer. To be electrocuted, you need to be near a power source, to fall to your death, you need to be in a situation that causes you to fall in the first place, and Body Function Failure is only caused when you either get attacked by the Vengeful Spirit, or you bleed to death.
