1. Summary

File Explorer – Gold ("the App", "we", "us") is a file manager, viewer and editor for Android. It works entirely on your device.

The App does not declare Android's internet permission. It cannot send your files or data to any server.
We run no servers that receive your files, photos, videos, documents or settings.
The App has no accounts, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking.
We receive information only if you choose to email us (Section 3).

This policy explains what the App accesses on your device, what stays there, and your choices.

2. What the App handles on your device

Everything below is processed locally and is never transmitted by the App.

Files and media. The App reads, lists, opens, copies, moves, renames, edits, shares and deletes files and folders you choose. This covers photos, videos, audio, PDFs, Office documents, eBooks, text files and archives, on internal storage, SD cards and USB/OTG drives.
Installed apps. The APK Manager, Installed Apps and Clean Storage → Delete Unused Apps tools read the names, icons, sizes and (if you grant Usage access) last-used dates of installed apps. This lets you decide what to remove.
Device and app information. The App reads your Android version and device model to decide which features work on your device.
Local analysis. Duplicate detection computes checksums of file contents. Blurry-photo detection analyses images. Junk and large-file scans list files by size and type. All of this runs on-device. Scan results are cached locally to speed up later scans.

3. Information you choose to send us

your device manufacturer and model;
your Android version;
the App version and build number;
the App's language.

It contains no file names, files, accounts, location or device identifiers. The App never sends the email itself. You can read, edit or delete any line, or cancel.

If you send it, your email provider and ours process it like any email. We use it only to answer you and improve the App. We keep it only as long as needed and will delete it on request.

4. Permissions and why

You can grant, deny or revoke permissions in Android Settings. Denying one may disable the related feature.

All files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) and the older storage permissions (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). These are essential to a file manager. They let you browse and manage files and folders on your device.
Photos, videos and audio (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO). These show and manage your media in the Images, Videos and Audio sections.
Install and delete apps (REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES, REQUEST_DELETE_PACKAGES). These let you start Android's own install or uninstall screen. The App never installs or removes anything silently.
Wallpaper (SET_WALLPAPER). Used only when you tap "Set as wallpaper".
Write settings (WRITE_SETTINGS). Used only when you set a ringtone.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS). Shows playback controls and export progress.
Foreground service, media playback (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK) and wake lock (WAKE_LOCK). Keep audio playing when you leave the App.
Foreground service, media processing (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING). Keeps a video or audio export running if you leave the App mid-export.
Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS). Optional, granted by hand in Android Settings. It adds last-used dates and real app sizes to Delete Unused Apps. Without it that tool shows less detail.
Picture-in-picture. Used when your device supports it. No data is transmitted.

Libraries bundled in the App also declare a few minor Android permissions: network-state, vibration and run-at-start-up. None gives the App internet access, and none gives us access to your data. Vibration is used for the haptic-feedback setting.

5. Private Folder

Private Folder is a hidden area for files you move into it.

Credentials. You lock it with a PIN (4–16 digits), a password (4–64 characters) or a pattern (4–9 dots). Only a salted PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA-256 hash is stored, on your device. We never see, receive or store your credential in readable form. Credentials set in older versions keep working.
Lockout. After 5 wrong attempts the App makes you wait, starting at 30 seconds and growing to 30 minutes with repeated failures. This all happens on your device.
Where files live. Files are moved into the App's private storage, which other apps and the normal file browser cannot access. They are not separately encrypted. Protection comes from Android's app sandbox and the lock. Someone with a rooted or compromised device may be able to reach them.
Screen protection. While Private Folder is open, screenshots, screen recording and the recent-apps preview are blocked. This stops when you leave it. The App also re-locks when it goes to the background.
Forgotten credential. We cannot recover it. "Reset Private Folder" erases the credential and permanently deletes every file inside. Nobody, including us, can restore them.
Removal and backup. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage permanently deletes Private Folder contents. Private Folder files and lock data are excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
Home screen. You can hide the Private Folder item count on the Home screen in Settings.

6. Trash

Deleting a file or folder usually moves it to Trash first.

Location. Trash is a hidden .trash folder at the root of the storage volume the item came from, such as internal storage or an SD card. It sits in shared storage, so apps with All files access can see it.
Retention. Items are kept 30 days and then permanently removed. You can also restore them or empty Trash at any time.
Uninstalling. Uninstalling the App does not delete items still in Trash. Restore or empty Trash first if you want them gone.

7. Media, document and PDF tools

The video, audio, image, PDF and text tools, and the Office, eBook and archive viewers, run entirely on your device with a local processing engine. Files are never uploaded. You choose whether an edit is saved as a new copy or replaces the original. Temporary working files are kept in the App's private cache and removed afterward.

8. Other apps and services

Rate Us and the rating card. The App may ask Google Play to show its in-app review card, or open the Play Store listing. Google Play displays the card and handles anything you enter under Google's privacy policy. We are not told whether you rated or what you wrote. The App stores only local counters (first-open date, number of opens, date of the last request) to time the request.
Share App, Share and Open with. When you share, or open a file in another app, you choose the receiving app. Its own privacy policy then applies.
Share to Download. When you share a file to "File Explorer", the App copies it into your device's Download folder. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Open with from other apps. Videos, audio and PDFs opened from another app are read only to be shown or played.
Links. The Privacy Policy, Terms, Play Store listing and email links open in your browser, Play Store or email app. Those apps have their own policies.

9. Data stored on your device

The App stores the following locally:

settings (theme, home style, language, sort and view choices);
your starred files;
caches and thumbnails;
scan results;
the audio track you picked for a video;
flags for one-time tips and "What's new";
the review-timing counters above;
Private Folder lock data.

Clearing the App's storage or uninstalling removes this data. Android backup excludes the App's settings file, scan cache and Private Folder data, so a new device starts with default settings. The App keeps no error logs on disk. A short in-memory list of error types (never file names) is discarded when the App closes.

10. What we do not do

We do not collect, sell, rent or share your files, contacts, location, advertising ID or device identifiers. We use no third-party advertising, analytics or tracking services. The open-source libraries in the App run locally. You can see them under Settings → Open Source Licenses.

11. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Your rights and choices

We hold no personal data about you apart from emails you send us. You can:

control all App data from your device (clear storage, revoke permissions, uninstall);
ask us to delete any email you sent (contact us below);
ask us what we hold, which would be only that correspondence.

We do not sell or share personal information.

13. Security

The App relies on Android's app sandbox and permission model, salted slow hashing of Private Folder credentials, on-device lockouts and screen protection. No method is completely secure. Keep your device updated and screen-locked.

14. Changes

We may update this policy. The effective date above will change, and we will point to material changes in the App or on our store listing. Your continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
