Portable Document Format (PDF) preserves document formatting and enables file sharing. When the PDF format file is viewed online or printed, it retains the format that you intended. The PDF format is also useful for documents that will be reproduced using commercial printing methods. PDF is accepted as a valid format by many agencies and organizations, and viewers are available on a wider variety of platforms than XPS.

XML Paper Specification (XPS) is an electronic file format that preserves document formatting and enables file sharing. The XPS format ensures that when the file is viewed online or printed, it retains exactly the format that you intended, and that data in the file cannot be easily changed.

Converting the document to the newer format lets you use newer features, but conversion might create difficulties for people who are using earlier versions of Word to edit the document. If you convert the document, they might not be able to work with certain portions of the document that were created in the newer versions of Word.

You can either work in Compatibility Mode or you can convert your document to the Word 2016 or Word 2013 file format. The Word Convert command clears the compatibility options so that the document layout appears as it would if it had been created in Word 2016 or Word 2013.

You can either work in Compatibility Mode or you can convert your document to the Word 2010 file format. The Word Convert command clears the compatibility options so that the document layout appears as it would if it had been created in Word 2010.

The "Recover Text from Any File" converter has limitations. For example, document formatting is lost. Additionally, graphics, fields, drawing objects, and any other items that are not text are lost. However, field text, headers, footers, footnotes, and endnotes are retained as simple text.

After the document is recovered by using the "Recover Text from Any File" converter, there is some binary data text that is not converted. This text is primarily at the start and end of the document. You must delete this binary data text before you save the file as a Word document.

Verify that the strange behavior no longer occurs. If the behavior persists, try to save the file in another file format. Repeat step 1 to step 4, and then try to save the file in the following file formats, in the following order:

When you save files in the Plain Text (.txt) format, you might resolve the damage to the document. However, all document formatting, macro codes, and graphics are lost. When you save files in the Plain Text (.txt) format, you must reformat the document. Therefore, use the Plain Text (.txt) format only if the other file formats do not resolve the problem.

Ps. I realise you wanted to convert both .doc and .docx to PDF. I'd suggest making a service yourself to convert .doc to docx using a specific non-server Windows/Microsoft technology. The doc format is binary and is not intended for server side automation of office.

The LibreOffice project is a Open Source cross-platform alternative for MS Office. We can use its capabilities to export doc and docx files to PDF. Currently, LibreOffice has no official API for .NET, therefore, we will talk directly to the soffice binary.

It is a kind of a "hacky" solution, but I think it is the solution with less amount of bugs and maintaining costs possible. Another advantage of this method is that you are not restricted to converting from doc and docx: you can convert it from every format LibreOffice support (e.g. odt, html, spreadsheet, and more).

I wrote a simple c# program that uses the soffice binary. This is just a proof-of-concept (and my first program in c#). It supports Windows out of the box and Linux only if the LibreOffice package has been installed.

You only need the free LibreOffice. I recommend using the LibreOffice portable edition, so it does not change anything in your server settings. Have a look, where the file "soffice.exe" (on Linux it is called differently) located, because you need it to fill the variable "locationOfLibreOfficeSoffice".

And no matter what you try (ie reinstalling, repairing office & installing newest version) you cannot get rid of it then uninstall it, before running this install for Windows Installer 3.1 (if not already installed) -

All 3 Windows 2000 machines (with Office XP/2002) I have further problems with ("The converter failed to open the file") and I still need Version 2 (or 1) of the Compatibility Pack. But the above steps have fixed the PC with Windows 2000 and Office 2003.

SensusAccess is an OIT-supported tool that allows anyone with an @colorado.edu email address to upload a document and have it converted to an alternate document format. The result is delivered to your email inbox.

There are many reasons why someone may want to use SensusAccess to convert a document to a different format. For someone with a disability, SensusAccess can provide options to convert documents into alternate formats that may be more accessible for the user. Below are a few examples where SensusAccess can help to address an accessibility barrier:

Please note that SensusAccess is not a replacement for alternate format accommodations through the Disability Services Office. SensusAccess is an additional resource that all CU students, faculty, and staff can use however best fits their personal needs.

CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff can access four types of conversion services through SensusAccess: Braille, Audio, E-Book, and Accessibility. Below is a link to more in-depth information about each service and the best uses for each format type:

Disclaimer: Since the SensusAccess process is automated, the converted format may not be 100% accurate. Additionally, the quality of the original format can impact the quality of the converted format. It is recommended that you review the converted format for accuracy and fix any errors resulting from the conversion.

Images of text present readable information within an image (e.g., an image of a table, a photo of a quote, or a scanned image of a news article). Images of text are not accessible to all readers, including individuals using screen readers, screen magnifiers, and text-to-speech software. Text contained in an image cannot be selected, copied, or edited. When an image of text is increased in size, the clarity of the text degrades.

All of my dates for every report in my companys workspaces have converted to american date format all of a sudden, meaning all data is showing incorrect. Power BI desktop and service now both think 8th January 2023 is the 1st of August 2023 etc.

Alternatively, in Power Query, for each date column you click on the format (at the top-left) and select "culture", that enables to indicate which is the day, month and year by selecting the country and language (you will be able to select USA and English).

My source data has the format 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss' direct from the database, and suddently became an issue today that power BI desktop imports this as m/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss, i.e., randomly reversing the month and the day with american date format. Prior to today, it imported as d/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss

Given it's text, this doesn't do anything. If I change the format to date or datetime, it will give an 'error' on any dates that fall outside the normal Australian datetime format in reverse. e.g. 10/20/2022 and 7/27/2019 both will give an error

You can use Google Drive to create and store files. Files created in Google Drive, Google-format files, can be edited collaboratively. Files stored in Drive cannot (though you can use the Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides Chrome extension to make basic edits in Chrome to Office files).

Acrobat allows you to convert one or more PDFs to different file formats, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The available formats include both text and image formats. When you export PDFs to file formats, each file format uses unique conversion settings.

It exports only the images from the PDF to the selected image file format. By default, the source filename is used with the new extension, and the exported file is saved in the same folder as the source file.

DOC is a word processing file created by Microsoft. This files format turns a plain-text format into a formatted document. It supports almost all the Operating Systems. It can contain large amount of text, data, charts, table, image etc. It can contain rich text format (RTF) and HTML texts also.

This download provides file converters and image filters for Microsoft Office programs, from Office 97 to Office 2003. These additional converters and filters are for older or seldom used documents or image formats.

Comma separated values (CSV) is a widely used format that stores tabular data (numbers and text) as plain text. Its popularity and viability are due to the fact that CSV files are supported by many different applications and systems at least as an alternative import/export format. The CSV format allows users to glance at the file and immediately diagnose the problems with data, change the delimiter, text qualifier, etc. All this is possible because a CSV document is plain text and an average user or even a novice can easily understand it without any learning curve. e24fc04721
