Stonehouse Lane

Paganel Archive After-School club created a short trail near the school to explore World War One Heritage literally on the doorstep of Paganel Primary School. The trail was focused on four location stops (see below).

Much of the history of the immediate location before 1938, when the school and surrounding housing estate was built, is rural or based around California Brickworks.

Paganel Primary School

Paganel School itself is actually located in what was a field to the east of Stonehouse Farm during World War One. Looking out across the playground you can see an embankment running across the school. From this map we can see this was a field boundary, and the 1905 OS map marks trees, one of which we were able to find.

Sadly the tree had to be felled, but we were able to count the rings to demonstrate the tree was around one hundred and twenty years old.
