Privacy Policy for the Mobile Application
Last updated: 30 March 2026
1. Who We Are
This Privacy Policy explains how Alexey Sakharov (the "Developer," "we," "us," or "our") processes information when you use the Field Area Measure mobile application (the "App").
2. Core Principle: Minimal Personal Data
The App is designed to operate with minimal collection of personally identifiable data. Your measurements, photos, and settings are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. Most information we collect is anonymised or aggregated and is used to improve functionality and performance.
3. Information We May Process
Anonymous usage statistics: Includes information such as feature usage counts, session duration, and device language. This is automatically collected via Firebase Analytics to help us analyse how the App is used and improve its performance.
Crash and diagnostics data: Includes error logs, OS version, and technical details collected via Firebase Crashlytics to help us identify bugs and improve reliability.
Advertising identifier (IDFA): With your explicit consent (via iOS AppTrackingTransparency), we may collect your advertising identifier. This may be used for basic analytics or attribution (e.g., measuring how users arrive at the App via ads). It is never linked to your name or other identifying information.
On-device location: The App uses GPS to provide core functionality — positioning on the map, calculating areas, distances, and perimeters. Your location is processed locally on your device. Location coordinates are stored as part of your measurement data on-device only. This information is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
On-device photos: The App allows you to attach photos from your camera or photo library to measurements. Photos are stored locally on your device in the App's documents directory. Photos are not uploaded to any external server.
On-device measurement data: All measurement data you create (coordinates, names, notes, metadata) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not maintain a server-side copy of your measurement data.
Map viewport data: When loading map tiles, the App sends requests to Google Maps servers. These requests may include your approximate map viewport location. This is necessary for the App to display satellite imagery and is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, or voice recordings.
4. How We Use Data
We use collected data to:
- Provide core functionality (map display, area/distance measurement, export)
- Improve app performance and stability
- Detect and fix crashes or bugs
- Understand which features are most used
- (If permitted) Measure advertising performance or user acquisition
We do not use data for profiling, behavioural advertising, or automated decision-making.
5. Legal Basis (GDPR, if Applicable)
If you are in the European Union or European Economic Area, we process data based on:
- Legitimate Interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for anonymised usage and crash analytics
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) for collection of the advertising ID (IDFA), where required by law
Anonymised data falls outside many GDPR requirements, but we apply its principles voluntarily.
6. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell or rent your data to advertisers or other third parties.
The App integrates the following third-party services:
- Google Maps SDK — Map display and satellite imagery (Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- Firebase Analytics — Anonymised usage analytics (Firebase Privacy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy)
- Firebase Crashlytics — Crash reporting (Firebase Privacy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy)
These services may process data independently under their own privacy terms and act as independent controllers. They only receive information as allowed by the platform and your settings.
Export: When you export measurements (KML, GeoJSON, GPX, CSV, PDF, Image), the exported files are shared only through the method you choose (e.g., AirDrop, email, Files app). We do not receive copies of your exports.
7. International Data Transfers
Some analytics or diagnostic data may be stored on servers outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Since this data is anonymised or pseudonymised, special safeguards may not be required. Nonetheless, we apply standard security measures, including encryption in transit and restricted access.
8. Data Retention
- Usage and diagnostics data is retained for up to 24 months.
- Advertising ID (if collected) is retained only as long as needed for its purpose (e.g., attribution), then discarded or anonymised.
- Location data used for map positioning is processed only during active sessions and is not stored beyond what you save in measurements.
- On-device measurement data, photos, and settings are retained until you delete them within the App or uninstall the App.
9. Security Measures
We use:
- TLS encryption for data in transit
- Firewall-protected infrastructure
- Access restrictions limited to the Developer
All user-created data (measurements, photos, settings) is stored locally on your device, protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). Since we do not operate servers that store your personal data, the primary protection lies with your device.
While we take security seriously, no system can guarantee complete protection. You use the App at your own risk.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Since we do not collect directly identifiable information on our servers, standard rights such as access or deletion of server-side data may not apply. However, you can:
- Delete your data at any time by removing measurements within the App or uninstalling it (all local data will be removed).
- Export your data using the App's built-in export features (KML, GeoJSON, GPX, CSV, PDF, Image).
- Opt out of analytics by disabling App Tracking in your device settings.
If you believe personal data has been collected, you may contact us (see Section 13), and we will investigate and take appropriate action.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns, you may delete the App at any time to remove all data from the device.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any significant changes will be communicated through the App or App Store listing. Continued use after such changes implies acceptance of the revised Policy.
