since past few days we have been experiencing the same issues with all of our sencha touch and cordova based app's. Many of our app users have been reporting this weird behavior and it was really hard to figure that the culprit was actually an update to android system webview.

I have 2 android tablets running Fully Kiosk Browser both opening the same dashboard. On my dashboard, I have 3 video tiles. 2 for 2 non-ssl Reolink cameras and 1 for a TinyCam Pro web server integration.

Thank you. I thought the tag would help but I added the android version and a little more context. Sorry I can't specify all the Andriod System WebView. This is the solution that worked for me and was sharing it to try to help others who may need it or come across something similar.

In the case of my Oreo multiboot device (no Magisk on those ROMs) it was a simple matter of manually placing the overlay file where it needed to be (/vendor/overlay/ for example). Used file manager in TWRP. Install Mulch webview and I was set.

Go to settings, then search for "android system webview", in the app settings there is a menu button at top right (3 dots). Open it and then select "uninstall updates". Close out and head to play store. Check to see if the app is still stuck trying to install. If so, restart your device. Once you are booted back up head back to the play store and check for app updates.

what graphs are you having issues with? Android System Webview houses the APIs that HA frontend and the apps use so its a bit strange when you say its the same issue. Is it a custom card? Are you sure your device is actually using that version of webview or is it using Chrome? Every device is different in how it handles webview but I can tell you that older versions will cause issues in the future should HA decide to use a feature in a later version.

yea non-standard webview, can you change it? Might be a setting you can change under developer settings on the device. You can try disabling it and see if it picks up the latest updated chrome. Android uses system webview or chrome but it also depends on the manufacturer. On Amazon tablets for example its not simple to change at all.

okay fixed it. For android versions 7,8,9 android web view is tied with google chrome, so to update it I had to update google chrome. Wish i did not had to do so since I hate the new card tabs for chrome, but now discourse works fine for duckduckgo. If anyone knows a way to downgrade chrome without affecting webview do message me

Hello dear Khadas team, I hope you enjoyed the New Year. I have now bought a Vim4 in addition to a Vim1s, I followed @Tomas instructions to update Webview.

I use the [Fully Kiosk Browser]

(Fully Kiosk Browser Lockdown | Android Kiosk Mode App) to display my Home Assistant dashboard. Unfortunately it freezes every now and then I read errors in logcat Webview. Is there any way to get an image with a new webview version cleanly integrated? With the preinstalled version I can not display my Frigate cameras but with a V108 version works for me. That would be really nice.

We used the image from this thread to get the HDMI input to work, VIM4 HDMI input as camera? - #25 by goenjoy. That image used a newer webview iirc. However, testing this on our latest demo setup give a black screen on the Vx1 output.

The underlying problem stemmed from a recent update to Android System WebView. This is a system component on Android devices that allows mobile applications to display web content. Because it is a part of the Android system itself, it affected any applications that used webviews.

For this Android System WebView issue, customers using Embrace were alerted to the crash spike and could inspect the user sessions to immediately pinpoint the root cause as a failing webview. Being able to immediately reproduce every user session on-demand empowers mobile teams to detect and fix a much larger range of issues than traditional monitoring solutions.

SSL connection works fine in a browser (firefox) on my phone. However, the Traccar manager app will not connect.

Traccar manager will not connect when I specify I believe this is a webview issue but was looking for confirmation.

I run LineageOS17.1 on my phone with a custom CA installed in Android certificate manager. Firefox is configured to use the system cert store.

With traccar manager, using either the default webview (installed with lineageOS) or the latest google dev android webview, I see the same failure attemtping to connect on the initial page of the app.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but I am trying to open PowerApps on my android phone version 7.0 and I get the message "Your device is using an unsupported version of a component. Please update android system webview from the Google Play Store.

Cordova/Phonegap apps have utilised the Crosswalk project via plugins such as cordova-plugin-crosswalk-webview to bring the benefits of a modern web runtime ("webview") to old Android 4.x devices, including:

However, from Android 5.0 onwards, the system webview is self-updating, meaning new features and bug fixes are delivered by Play Store just like updates for any other app. This means devices running these modern Android versions don't need Crosswalk to make use of modern web features.

Hello,

I try to use an android tablet to access the webthings gateway, but I see a blank blue background (see the image below). The tablet is running Jellybean 4.2.

I tried to open the gateway in chrome app and in native browser app from the tablet with the same result, a blank blue screen.

Why is that and what can I do to see it correctly?
