Hopefully most of the questions that you have will be answered by interacting with the information available on this website. Here are some other questions that we think parents and pupils may want answered. The information below is based on what would normally happen when Falkirk High School is fully open to all pupils and operating under ‘normal’ circumstances.
Where can I buy purchase school tie/blazers?

What do I do if I forget my tie?
All FHS pupils need to wear a school tie at all times, if you forgot your tie you should report to the school office and collect one that should be returned at the end of the school day.
What happens if I am not going to be in school?
You should phone the school office to let them know and advise on how long you may be absent for.
What happens if I am late for school?
It is really important that pupils always try to be on time, however, if you are late you should
make your way to the main school office.
Can pupils leave the school campus at break/interval?
Pupils are not permitted to leave the school campus at interval.
Can pupils leave the school campus at lunchtime?
Pupils are permitted to leave the school campus at lunch time. Although it is encouraged,
especially for younger pupils, to stay in school and enjoy the wide range of offerings at
lunchtime.
How do I get a bus pass?
Bus passes can get purchased from Falkirk council. Visit their website at https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/schools-education/school-life/school-transport.aspx
Where do they get the school bus from?
Information about specific bus routes will be provided by Falkirk Council’s Transport team.
How much do they need each day for lunch?
There is a wide range of food available at lunchtime with a variety of cost. A meal can be purchased for £2.40. Money can be loaded on cards in school or using the online payment facility, https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/do-it-today/pay/schools/
How much does Home Economics cost?
For S1 Home Economics the yearly costs are around £30. Details of how this can be paid will be shared. Please do not worry if this will be a concern, we have funds in school to help with these types of payments.
Is there a uniform for PE?
Pupils are encouraged to wear house t-shirts in PE. All pupils will be required to change into a t-shirts/jumper, shorts/leggings or tracksuit bottoms and trainers for PE lessons. It should all be plain and appropriate for use in school. No football colours are allowed.
When can I go to the toilet?
You are encouraged to go to the toilet during your social times. This means you don’t miss out on your learning or disrupt the teacher. If you have a medical condition make sure to let your Head of House know so you can get a toilet pass to use if needed.
What if I have medication to take during the day?
You should bring your medication to school and give to Mrs Henderson, our school nurse. She will keep it safe and you can go to her office to take your medicine in private.
What happens if I start to feel unwell during the day?
Let you teacher know and they will send you to our school nurse. Mrs Henderson will
either help you feel better or contact someone to come and collect you.
What is PEP/PSE?
PEP stands for Pupil Entitlement Period. All pupils from S1 – S6 attend PEP. We always hope that pupils will be in the same PEP class with the same teacher throughout their time at FHS. This allows them to build strong relationships and be supported to achieve their potential. During PEP pupils will work on developing skills that are important for learning, life and work.
PSE stands for Personal and Social Education. In S1 this will be delivered by pupils’ Head of House. They will explore many issues associated with Health and Wellbeing and relationships.
Will my child have friends in S1 class?
Pupil Support staff have been working with Primary staff and try and have supportive pairings in classes. This is not always possible but support will be given to pupils to establish positive relationships.
If my child has support from The Den, how often will this be?
If it has been identified that your child would benefit from support from our Nurture provision, The Den, you will be notified and provided with further information. S1 classes have around 3 periods in the Den each week, but this is dependent on the number of pupils who need this support.
Will my child’s school laptop from Primary be in place for beginning of term?
We will work to have all support in place for pupils as quick as possible. If there are any delays, we will ensure that alternative and appropriate support is put in place.
Will teachers know all about my child’s learning difficulties, behaviour, anxiety……….?
Comprehensive support will be devised for each pupil and shared with teaching staff. We will work hard with you to fully understand pupil’s needs and provide them with the support that they need.
What house will my child be in?
Pupils are parents will be notified about classes and associated House
How will they be able to find their way around?
Hopefully the video tour will be helpful and also from your visits to FHS. However, whenever
Pupils do arrive in school senior pupils will assist them moving around the school.
What level of work will they be doing?
Information has been provided by primary schools about pupils levels. Work within classes will be differentiated and will be a continuation of the work that pupils have already achieved in primary school.
Will I get homework?
The amount of homework varies from subject to subject depending on how many periods a week you see the teachers. You will get a membership to ‘Show My Homework’ where your teachers will put details of your homework.
Will my instrumental lessons continue?
Yes. In most cases you will have the same instructor you had at primary school. You will be able to find the lesson timetable in the music department. If you would like to take part in individual music tuition, speak to your music teacher about what instrument you would like to play.
Who do I contact if I have info/concerns?
All parents will be provided with contact details for their child’s Head of House. If you have any concerns in relation to school they would be your first point of contact.
How will I find out about activities happening in the school?
We have a number of different communication channels. Our different Twitter channels are filled with information, pictures, celebrations and sometimes challenges. We also have a school app which you can download to receive updates and notifications. Our school website also houses a vast range of information and is well worth a browse.
