Event description:
In this event, participants will use remote sensing imagery, data, and computational process skills to complete tasks related to climate change processes in the Earth system. Teams use remote sensing images, such as photographic and spectroscopic information, to analyse data and/or make climate models.
The tests tend to be comprised of a mix of image interpretation as well as questions regarding concepts of remote sensing and climate change processes (carbon cycle, aerosols, ozone depletion, etc.). Some ecology/biology background is useful, as well as meteorology and knowledge of basic physics concepts. Knowledge of individual space programs and NASA satellites, in addition to the types of sensors used, is recommended.
Remote Sensing rotates between topics occasionally. In addition, the specific aspects of remote sensing, including the satellites and types of data focused on, often change between years. The topic for the 2022 season was the same as it was in 2017 and 2018, Climate Change Processes.
Teams may and should bring:
Four 8.5" x 11" double-sided page of Notes
Metric ruler and protractor
One non-graphing calculator
Once you create your cheat sheets, they will be linked here.
