Welcome to FHS' Science Olympiad website!

Our club meets every Wednesday during block lunch– fill out the form to the left, and join us!

Navigate through our site from the menu above, or stay on this page to read about the "premier team science competition in the nation" and general information about the competition!

(Go to "At FHS" to read more about our school's story!)

What is Science Olympiad?

Science Olympiad is a nation-wide science competition, taking place in all 50 states with over 5,500 total teams, and with two divisions: Division B (middle school) and Division C (high school– us!).

Competitors are able to compete in a maximum of 4 events, from a total of 23 choices spanning all fields of STEM. Events range from hour-long tests that take place with a partner (or two), to builds, where you design and build a structure and test it at competition.

what do i need to join?

Nothing!

While this club is centered around the competition, first and foremost, it's a way to build and empower the STEM community at Fairview.

If you find this club at the beginning of the year, come to our informational meeting on August 24 during block lunch (12:30-1:05), located in room 424 (or ask where Ms. Morris' room is)! Be sure to join our email list, for weekly emails about the club, and upcoming meetings.

If you find this club later in the year or are simply unable to make it to the informational meeting-- no worries! First, join the email list. Then email or text us to let us know that you want to join! It's as simple as that.

how much commitment do i need to make to the club?

Science Olympiad is not commitment heavy– largely in part due to the collaborative nature of the competition. Testing events often allow for a double-sided cheat sheet, or a full binder of information. Builds often take just 1-2 hours total, and can be split with your partner(s).

While we'd like for everyone joining to partake in the competition, we completely understand that as students, athletes, and people-- a lot of us are super busy! There are quite a few people every year who join the club just for the community we've built (and the snacks, of course). So, while we do encourage everyone to compete, it's not required.

If you are not competing, we'd still love to have you at our weekly meetings.

If you are planning to compete, please try to come to as many as possible! If you have to miss a meeting, let us know and we'll send a summary and resources your way.

what do i need to know about the competition?

Competition dates are usually announced between the November-February academic year. Joining the club does not require you to compete-- however, once competition dates are out, please make a commitment.

The club also requires a $15 fee from every member, in order to pay for the cost of competing-- each team registered costs hundreds of dollars, plus cost of snacks and transportation!

Read more about event-specific competitions under each respective event, listed under the "Event Resources" drop-down menu.
