Continuous Toxin Monitoring (SPATT)
DRAFT WEBPAGE**
What is Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Tracker Monitoring
What is Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Tracker Monitoring
Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Trackers (SPATTs) are “teabag-like” passive samples that can adsorb dissolved cyanotoxins from the water column. SPATTs can be deployed in a waterbody for hours to days and integrate low cyanotoxin concentrations that may not be detected in discrete water grab samples. SPATT results are expressed as mass (ng/g) rather than volume (ug/L), so they cannot be compared to current recommended trigger levels for postings. However, SPATT trends can provide valuable information on FHAB toxicity and function as a screening tool for additional monitoring.
