I was Hungry trainings continue in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi and Namibia.
So grateful to God to be able to serve the “Least, the Last, the Lost and the Forgotten” through this program. Each precious soul that we train comes away with HOPE!
John and Mary Beth Flippen | Crown Malawi Foundations for Farming International
The Crown Malawi Team recently conducted an "I Was Hungry" (IWH) training in a Muslim village, as reported by their team.
The team went through roads that no one else was able to pass through. But more than that…there is a Jesus revival happening in this Muslim village – something that has never happened before!
The villagers that did NOT come to the IWH wanted to know what Crown did to their friends because they returned so differently. “Did Crown put something in their food?” So as our Team was preparing to arrive the “opposers” told the people NOT to go to the meeting because our team wanted to “suck their blood”. Still this did not stop the people from attending! Over 40 people came…husbands and wives together.
Some of the changes they had seen in the IWH participants …
The women had stopped constant gambling and started businesses. One woman had gambled so much that she even lost her clothes and had returned home in a borrowed piece of fabric. This woman started saving and has now opened a restaurant!
Their maize was better than everyone else’s. They could SEE the difference!
One couple came for counseling both days - they had not slept in the same room for 8 years.
The men who had originally built the Mosque in the village have abandoned it. They have now built a grass hut to worship Jesus in. They are encountering persecution, but as one said it best “I now know Jesus and it is so worth it! I will not go back to Islam!”
The two-week "I Was Hungry" (IWH) training has a remarkable impact, leading to such significant changes in the villagers that their families and communities are eager to understand their learning. While the agricultural aspects are readily shared by the participants, the Finance and Family sections are often more effectively conveyed by an external trainer. To address this, our team conducts three-day Finance and Family workshops within the villages, catering to both IWH graduates and their spouses. Impressively, these workshops often attract local Chiefs. This incredible development underscores the power of the three-day Finance & Family Workshop as a further instrument for Jesus to expand His Kingdom. They hunger for more of Jesus! 🙌

We are pleased to share some heartfelt testimonies and insightful comments from villagers who participated in the "I Was Hungry" Program. It brings us immense joy to read their experiences and to offer praise to our Heavenly Father for His unwavering faithfulness, abundant goodness, and boundless love, as evidenced in their stories.
"Even though we were laughed at for our new farming techniques, we kept doing them. Even through the drought, we could see a difference in our fields and our neighbors who quit."
"My soil is so soft to walk on. It is healed!"
"I now know what it is like to be a pastor! People come to me at 7:00am asking me, "Come help me in my field."
"We made compost together and shared it. And, we shared money to buy seed." (Dependency has turned to generosity!)
"We did the Budgeting Drama - brought peace to people’s homes. Families now want to budget together!"
" A Muslim man wanted to know about my faith. Through conversations, this man gave his life to Jesus."
6 chiefs in attendance! The senior chief spoke on how he had seen a difference in the IWH fields. He validated the program and invited the Lead Farmers to continue reaching others beyond their own village.
3 Lead Farmers from this village were chosen to pass on the vision.
People are now throwing away their charms! Charms use to be put in the center of their fields and on the corners. Lead Farmers told them this was a waste of time.
The women had stopped constant gambling and started businesses. One woman had gambled so much that she even GAMBLED HER CLOTHES AWAY and had returned home in a borrowed piece of fabric. This woman started saving and has now opened a restaurant!
Their maize was better than everyone else’s. They could SEE the difference!
One couple came for counseling two days in a row - they had not slept in the same room for 8 years!
The men who had originally built the Mosque in the village have abandoned it. They have now built a grass hut to worship Jesus in. They are encountering persecution, but as one said it best “I now know Jesus and it is so worth it! I will not go back to Islam!”
After the chief shares his village compost plan for prospering, the two villages pray together around the five compost piles.
Mangochi #2
Johan and Frieda Grobler | Rehoboth Foundations for Farming South Africa
Following the "I Was Hungry" training in Makoko, the community's agricultural efforts are showing positive results. The mango trees, planted eight weeks ago, are healthy and growing well, with only minor pest issues reported. Orchard maintenance is being carried out effectively.
The sugar bean crops are at different stages, with Block 1 nearing harvest. Block 2, despite earlier rabbit damage, is now flowering and recovering well. The cabbage crop is thriving thanks to consistent manure application, and the problem with cabbage worms has been successfully managed.
While the general progress of the vegetable garden is good, recent heavy rains have caused disease in the beetroot and spinach. Additionally, erosion near the borehole is currently being addressed.
Despite these challenges, the Makoko community remains in high spirits and continues to value the knowledge and principles imparted by Foundations for Farming (FfF). Looking ahead, a comprehensive two-day Moneymap training is scheduled for next month, and an open invitation has been extended to all neighboring communities.

This was 10 years ago - Elton on the right is a successful farmer and Fredrick a self confessed drunk and thief arrived to the training with long dreadlocks. He is now a pastor! From Rasta to Pastor! He said he learned to speak English through the MoneyMap game! Thank you Jesus!
