Undergraduate Research

Power Systems-CARE has put a lot of efforts to enhance undergraduates’ engagement in research three main directions including:

I. MURE- Mentored Undergraduate Research Experience

o With the support from Louisiana Board of Regents as well as Louisiana Space Program (LaSPACE), the team has been able to engage undergraduates in several paid research opportunities. This includes 15 different sponsored projects, and approximately $73,000 since 2019. Additionally, every semester, 5 undergraduate students from the Engineering’s URAP program are involved in different projects in the lab. Furthermore, senior design teams are always welcomed to the Power Systems-CARE laboratory.

II. CURE- Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience

o Power Systems-related research has been incorporated in two courses, including EECE 447 and EECE 450G, to make research opportunities more inclusive and available to a larger group of students.

III. PURE- Program-level Undergraduate Research Experience

o As part of an active NSF-sponsored project, the Power Systems-CARE group in collaboration with several other faculty at UL Lafayette across different departments work with a group of 40 academically talented students from all Engineering departments on different research topics centered around Energy Technologies.
