Fernwood PTSA would like to begin After School Enrichment Program Spring Session after Spring Break. We would like to find out information on the type of classes students would be interested in, and if you are willing to be a volunteer in a class. Please note this is an interest-only form for capacity estimation. Filling out the form does NOT guarantee the spot for the class. If interest exceeds maximum capacity, a computer generated lottery randomly determines the acceptance and wait list order of those who sign up the interest-only form. Class that does not receive enough interest to meet minimum requirement will be canceled.
Note: Please keep in mind that we require a PTSA parent/guardian volunteer to be a member of PTSA and be present during each enrichment session. This person can also help coordinate the class. The PTSA parent volunteers must complete the Northshore Volunteer Application Process in advance. If you are interested, please specify in the form below. Without a volunteer, the classes would be canceled.
Due to the recent challenges of finding parent chaperones, we decided to give priority (waive lottery) to parents who step up to be parent chaperones for the whole 8-week session. Please indicate your intention to be parent chaperone for 8-week session in the interest form. Parents can only take advantage of this priority once. We will determine the parent chaperones of each class on first come first serve basis. If there is no parent chaperone for the whole 8-week session, the class will be canceled even before lottery.
Classes are slated to begin in mid April. If you are interested, please sign up by filling out the form linked here by March 16th at 11:59pm. Please include a parent/guardian email address; do not provide your student's NSD ID and fill out a separate form for each child. Once lottery occurs, parents/guardian will receive an email no later than March 22nd about the lottery status (accepted/waitlisted). Lottery winners will have 72 hours priority to register. After that, registration will open to waitlists.
Limited scholarship available for eligible students.

Message from Chess Wizards:
We’re thrilled to offer a dynamic and engaging curriculum that introduces students to essential chess concepts while building their confidence and strategic thinking. Each week, students dive into fundamental skills like understanding piece values, learning key tactics such as pins, forks, and skewers, and mastering basic openings and checkmates. Our lessons also include engaging puzzles, tactical motifs, and strategic endgame techniques, giving students a well-rounded grasp of the game. To reinforce their learning, students participate in variation games and fun group activities that foster critical thinking and teamwork.
Parents can feel assured that our program provides a balanced and comprehensive learning journey, helping young chess enthusiasts grow into skilled and thoughtful players.

Description:
SPARK: 3D Modeling and Design will teach children the basic concepts of 3D Cadding via the TinkerCAD program. They will learn how to bring their ideas to life with hands-on projects, with us(the teachers) printing their 3D designs out for the final project. The club encourages creativity through actual hands-on design instead of boring lectures, with tutors providing support whenever needed.
We are a group of freshmen from North Creek High School who are interested in STEM and want to impact our community. We decided to start this program start of this year, where we go to local elementary schools and volunteer to teach the children there about STEM topics. We are a fully student ran program, where everything from club coordination, lesson planning, and teaching is all done by students. We have already done two club seasons at Canyon Creek Elementary, with great feedback from the kids and parents alike. We hope to allow more kids to discover new interests that they otherwise might not know they would like.
